After the two dogs had eaten up all the meat, they headed back to the forest. The sky was getting darker. The sun had set, and the sky was getting darker every heartbeat.
I sniffed the air to feel a tingling sensation on my nose, telling me that there was a storm coming. "Storm's coming." I barked gruffly.
"We should hurry up; we don't want to get soaked to the bone!" Oak agreed, shuddering at the thought of getting cold. Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers both like water, and both me and Oak aren't exceptions, but we really don't like getting cold. That's why we only play in the snow and rain for a short amount of time.
I thought about Frost the Siberian Husky, Beta of Feather's group who loves the cold and howls in joy when it snows. Frost's a good friend of mine. He welcomed me when I first entered this forest. Since then, we have been close friends, me visiting Feather's Pack anytime I wanted.
Me and Frost were still close, meeting each other to talk and hunt once in a while.
"Let's go, Gold! We don't want to freeze to death!" Oak barked, amused. The lab set off towards the forest, Gold just behind.
The two friends arrived back the forest just as it began to rain. It was only a trickle so far, but more dark murky clouds drifting towards the forest on the horizon told the dogs that more rain would be coming. "We need to find shelter before this storm gets worse." I woof, looking around to find a good and sheltered spot to stay for the night.
"Maybe that tunnel over there?" Oak suggested, sweeping his tail to a big tunnel that looked dry. "Yeah, it would be good to rest in, since it's dry inside." I agreed, padding over to sniff the tunnel entrance, which was as big as a badger. "Seems like there are no animals here now." I announced and leaped through the tunnel entrance.
"It's nice and warm in here!" I called from the cozy warmth of the cave-like tunnel. "You should come!"
"Okay... If you say so, Gold..." Oak barked cautiously and stepped a yellow paw into the tunnel. He took another step, and another, and he was in the warm tunnel.
"Wait... This feels great!" Oak exclaimed, dashing into the inner cave where I was. "See?" I grinned, Oak nodding.
"Should stay here for the night?" I asked Oak. "Of course!" Oak smiled.
We both wrapped our tails around our body. Sleep overtook me and I fell asleep.
When I got up, it was morning. The tunnel was brighter warm rays filtering through the tunnel entrance. I stretched and popped my head out of the entrance. I looked around to check if there were any intruders. I couldn't find any, so I went back to my spot, where Oak was snoring softly next to it. I decided to wake him up, so we could go hunting.
I prodded the golden lab. "Oak wake up, we should go hunting!"
"Ugh... Can't I sleep for just a little but longer?" Oak grumbled drowsily.
I sighed. Oak really liked to sleep, liking it just after eating.
"Okay, then Oak. I'll go and to my 'business' while you go sleep some more." I woofed, racing out the tunnel.
After I had done my business in a nearby tree, I head back to the tunnel where Oak was sleeping. Just then, I heard a loud shriek coming from the tunnel.
It's Oak! He must've gotten attacked! I thought, dashing to the tunnel entrance and leaping through it. My heart was racing as fast as a rabbit, fearing the Oak might be dead. I saw a silver stray dog that looked familiar but couldn't remember who it was in all the commotion, biting down on Oak's scruff, who was awake know.
"Gold... Please... Help..." Oak gasped, some blood oozing out of his scruff.
The silver dog let go of Oak, Oak breathing in relief. I let out a low snarl at the faintly familiar silver dog.
"Who are you, and what are you trying to do to Oak?" I glared fiercely at the silver dog, who didn't even seem to care.
"Oh, why hello, Gold. Don't you remember me? I'm Silver, from the Farm."
