After dinner, Roger lied exhausted in the recliner, his feet propped up, his shirt unbuttoned. Janet came into the living room and offered him a glass of wine. Then, she curled up like a cat and sat in his lap. They smiled at each other contently and then kissed.
Ricky walked past the living room. "I'm going to bed."
His parents told him goodnight, and he walked upstairs to his bedroom.
Roger sighed happily. "This new place is nice. I really like it here."
"I do, too. It's a good neighborhood with good schools. Ricky already seems to be making friends."
"And I'm actually working a job I love." He kissed her. "Are you happy here?"
Janet leaned her head against his chest. "I am." She stared at the new wallpaper in silence. "Roger?"
"Yes, my flower?" He stroked her hair.
"Do you remember that club we went to?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Do you remember how you felt?"
"I felt overwhelmed. There were all these... attractive women there... wanting me."
Janet felt the bulge in Roger's pants against her skin. "Would you want to be with other women? Maybe swing?"
Roger frowned and lifted his wife's chin, so they made eye contact. "Are you sure about this?"
"I just remember seeing the way you looked at them. You were ecstatic."
"It didn't mean anything. I'm happily yours forever."
"I know, but I had never seen you so captivating."
"Jan, let's leave what happened in Chicago behind us." He held his wife's hand. "And just focus on each other." Roger kissed her again. "I love you."
"I love you, too. But do you ever think about what it would be like to... include others into the bedroom? I know you think about other women sometimes."
Roger stiffened in his chair. "I'm never going to cheat again. But sometimes I do think about the women we met at the club."
Janet nodded. "It's not cheating if we're both okay with it. If we're honest."
"I remember that club well. You also had many onlookers. It turned me on seeing the men swoon over you."
"So, you understand where I'm coming from? How this could be good for both of us?"
Roger thought back to how amazing it felt when that unicorn gave him a lap dance. "Janet, is this something you want? Because we don't have to. I'm perfectly satisfied with you being the only one in my life. Don't feel that you have to let me do this, because if that's the only reason, I want no part of it." He patted her cheek. "Is this something you want, too? 'Cause, if you're allowing me to swing, why should I deny you your pleasures?"
Janet nodded. "For a while now, I've been having this.... feeling." She looked away from him.
"What is it, Jan?"
She didn't answer.
Roger asked, "Do you also think about the men you met at the club?"
Janet shuddered. "Roger. Please understand that I love you more than I'll ever love anyone, and we'll always be married, but... I think I'm also attracted to women." She shut her eyes and winced in anticipation of Roger's response.
Roger's brow furrowed. He did not expect those words to be uttered from his wife's mouth. His mind wandered back to the club. A few female swingers turned their heads at the sight of Janet. "What makes you think so?"
"I guess deep down, I've always known, but it took me a while to admit it to myself." She took a deep breath. "Our friend from Chicago, Eden, makes me uncomfortable. In butterflies in my stomach, sweaty palms, heart racing kind of way." Janet looked up at Roger. "You're not mad?"
Roger pictured the young, blonde twenty-year-old and her Latino husband, Romeo. "No, of course not. I'm just surprised, that's all." He held her close. "Is this what you were trying to tell me? Do you want to swing because you want to play with women? You want to play with Eden?"
Janet blushed. "And Romeo. If that's okay?"
Roger raised his eyebrows. "Well, I can't blame you. Eden's pretty hot." He closed his eyes as he tucked a hair behind Janet's ear. "You don't know how much that would turn me on to see the two of them fucking you."
