Once upon a time...

A dragon went for a walk. He was walking on a dirt path in between two lines of evergreen trees when he slammed into a huge curved stone wall. He cringed and leaned away from the wall. He peers up at the wall, but he can't see the top. All he saw was gray stone disappearing into mist. He looked around, but saw no one. "Hello." Someone says behind him. He slowly turns around, letting his tail stay on the ground so he won't hurt whoever spoke. When he was fully turned he looked down his light blue scales at the human below.

The human lifted their metal piece on their knight helmet. Their silver body armor gleams in the sunlight, nearly blinding the dragon. The dragon raised a yellow-clawed hand to block his eyes from the reflection. The knight put their hand on the brown hilt of their sword and the dragon backed up against the gray stone wall. "I mean you no harm." He says to the human. The human moved their hand back to their side. "What are you doing here?" The human asked.

"I was on a walk and this wall blocked my path." The human nods in understanding. "You can stay if you want." The human says. The dragon smiled. "I would like that very much." He replied. The human motioned for the dragon to follow them. The dragon did, all the way through the front gate of the castle. Everyone gasped when they saw the dragon. Some ran away. The dragon pretended not to notice and kept following the knight. The knight took him to a secluded spot and gave him some water.

The dragon thanked the knight. "It's been so very long since anyone has treated me with any kindness." He says as he drinks. The knight frowns. "I'm sorry." They say.

 "It's fine."

"It's been a long time for me as well. Being a non-binary knight isn't easy." The dragon nods. "Why did you really bring me here?" The dragon asks. The knight crosses their arms. "I would like to offer you a job." The knight replies. "Which is?"

"To help me fight for the prince," The knight blushes under their short brown hair. "I mean the royal family." The dragon takes a moment to think. "Only if you promise that I'll never be captured or chained." The knight hold out their hand. "Deal." The dragon gives the human his claw and they shake.

From then on they protected the royal family by fighting along side each other in battle. But that isn't how this particular story ends....
