Prologue
It's all coming back now.
Everything.
The way the rain sounded like drums as it hit the glass windows, the cool feel of the couch's material against my fingertips; the scene is so vivid in my mind.
The pillows were strewn about the room. Hanging off of the desk was the lamp, the only thing keeping the light from falling was the cord that plugged into the wall. I remember the bulb's light flickered on and off every few seconds.
My uncle's twisted snarl of a smile has burned in my head for thirteen years. Until now I'd always endured through nightmares about that menacing grin. Only this wasn't a nightmare. It's a memory. A memory I'd pushed in the back of my head until now, trying to avoid the reality of what happened, clinging onto hope that it wasn't my fault. Everything is rushing back now, hitting me in the gut with a force stronger than a freight train.
This sucks.
I'm transported back into the memory. Suddenly I'm a ten-year-old boy again.
Blood drip drip drips down my hands, staining the beige couch. Mother wouldn't be happy about it. It's funny how the only thing I can think about is the time I spilt blue Kool-Aid on the tan recliner. Mom was mad about that; she took hours trying to get the stain out.
Mother wouldn't have to worry about the stains anymore though. Uncle said she'd be going somewhere better now, same with Dad. They had been sad for a while. They'd always yell at each other and get into fights. Uncle said they'd be happy now.
I just wish they didn't have to hurt so much to get there. I'll miss them.
A week later we buried my parents. I had forgotten what had happened then though. I didn't remember how I had shifted into a wolf and mauled my own family, or how my little sister asked me why I was covered in red paint before she saw them on the floor, or how my uncle patted me on the shoulder and told me they were going somewhere good, or how he laughed, and laughed, and laughed. I remembered none of it.
Until now.
And I'm sure others remember too. They'll find me, they'll turn us in, they'll kill us both.
I need to get to them first, or else my life is over; just like my parent's.

A/N:
Hey hey hey! So this was a short prologue for a collab story me and my friend came up with. We thought superheroes were pretty cool so we decided to write a story about it (yes, I know, real original, right?). Hopefully this one will be a bit different than the others though ;) We're switching off every chapter with a different POV so she'll write the first chapter, I'll write the next, she'll write the next, etc. etc. Hopefully you guys like it and if you have any constructive critisism or anything, please leave it in the comments! Thanks!

The Capes
ActionBeing a superhero isn't everything it's cracked up to be - trust me, I speak from experience. People always have it out for you, the uniforms are tight and uncomfortable (though the capes are pretty cool), and you can't show anyone your actual face...
