"Honey are you alright?".

Hazel looked up at Charlotte with tear stained eyes. "I made a mistake". Hazel was sitting on her kitchen floor when her friends came in. She didn't even remember how long she'd been sitting there. Charlotte sat down next to her best friend and wrapped her arm tightly around the young Brit. "Did I make a mistake?". Charlotte looked down at her best friend with a sad smile on her face. "You made the right decision Haze", she answered tenderly. Choked up on tears Hazel said "I need him". Charlotte sighed as she took the Brit's face in her hands. "Look at me Hazel". Hesitantly she looked up at the Monegasque. "You don't. Need him. You are independent, you don't need a guy". A new stream of tears found their way down Hazel's cheeks. "I love him". She let head fall into Charlotte's chest and started sobbing uncontrollably. "I know babe".

George didn't quite know what to do as he watched how Hazel broke down. Partially he felt responsible, it was his fault, he broke down everything she had worked so hard for to build up. But on the other side he knew he wasn't to blame. This was bound to happen. And at that moment George made a promise to himself, but mostly to Hazel, that he would do anything in his power to help her rebuild everything, that he would protect her with his life, nothing and no one would ever hurt her as long as she would be in his care.

George would soon enough find out that he misjudged the situation a little. The conversation he and Hazel had the other day gave him the impression that she would let him in, give him a chance. But oh boy how wrong he was. He never anticipated she loved Lando that much. That it would break her so much to loose him. Making George wonder if maybe they should've waited a little longer. Even though he knew that, in the end, it wouldn't have made the slightest difference.

"Hazel", he mumbled as she got up from the floor, making her look at him with her puffy red eyes. He reached out for her arm but she quickly took a step back. The way she looked at him was like a dagger in his heart. She blamed him, he could see it in her face. Her voice trembled as she spoke up. "What are you doing here?". "Making sure you're alright". Hazel scoffed at George's answer. "Making sure I'm alright? You really don't get it do you?".

It is quiet for a while as the two looked at each other. George wasn't sure what to say as he indeed didn't get. They are soulmates yet she's mad at him for god knows what. For the break up of a relationship that wasn't meant to be in the first place? "You need to stop", Hazel continued after realizing how clueless George was. How one can be so unaware of ones own actions was a mystery to her. "Stop what?". "Constantly showing up out of the blue. I don't want you here".

George still didn't get it. "I am just trying to look out for you!". "I don't need you looking out for me George!". "Don't you get Hazel?! I care so fucking much about you!" George raised his voice slightly which caused Hazel to raise her voice even higher "I DON'T NEED YOUR CARE GEORGE. I NEED YOU TO LEAVE ME TO FUCK ALONE!". George ran his fingers through his hair, desperately tring to find a way to get through to Hazel without pushing her away completely. In a softer tone he said "We're meant to be together Hazel. I'm not going to stop until you realise that". She sadly shook her head in response.

"You don't even give a shit about my feelings". "Hazel... You know that's not tr-". But she interrupted him before he could finish that sentence. "All you fucking care about is that stupid soulmate bond! Well newsflash George, that doesn't mean shit!". She yelled the last part. "That's not true!", George yelled back. "I do care about your feelings!". "Then why the fuck are you still here George?!". George stared at Hazel with a questioning look in his eyes as tears started streaming down her face again. Her throat hurt from all the crying and yelling.

"I just had to break up with the man I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with because some soulmate bullshit decided that he and I weren't meant to be". "Hazel....". George was speechless. "I need some space George", She sobbed. He exhaled sharply. "I don't think I can do that Hazel... I need you". "This is not about what you need right now George". "As a matter of fact, it is. It's just as much about what I need as what you need. We're partners now, whether you like it or not".

Hazel shook her head in disbelieve. She had never in her life met someone as oblivious to another's feelings as George is. "We", She motioned between them. "are nothing George. Yes, you are the person that made me see colour and I know that we'll eventually end up together but as if right now, we are nothing. And I need you to stop forcing yourself and your so called care on me". Her whole body seemed to tremble under the tension and all the emotions she was feeling. A sudden wave of tiredness blew over her.

"I see", George mumbled. "I need some time to get through this break up George", Hazel sighed and he nodded in response. "I know. I just wish it wasn't this messed up". The tensed look on her face softened a little as she looked up at him. "Me too". George noticed how the tiredness washed over her. "Go get some rest Hazel". She nodded and without saying anything else she disappeared into her bedroom.

As he turned around he saw Charles and Charlotte sitting on the couch. He forgot they were still here. George cleared his throat. "Guess I'm gonna go home", he mumbled softly. Charlotte smiled at him reassuringly "We'll look after her". George yawned as he got out of the lift on the ground floor. This argument had worn him out. The whole drive home George reflected on what had happened and the things that had been said. He realised now that he had been too pushy.

With a deep sigh George let himself fall on his bed. And even though he was really tired, sleep wouldn't come. Every time he closed his eyes he saw Hazel standing in front of him with tears streaming down her face. We are nothing George. These words were going to haunt him for a long time. Mostly because he knew that it was the truth. Just because you're soulmates doesn't mean you're immediately in this perfect relationship. George realised he had been pushing his feelings on Hazel way too hard, unintentionally disregarding hers.

It all made him question his relationship with Carmen too. Shouldn't he be feeling the same way about his break up as Hazel was? Maybe he was just in love with the idea of being in love more than he was actually in love with Carmen. Now that he thought of it, he never got that warm feeling in his stomach when he looked at her like he got when he looked at Hazel. She made him feel things he never felt before and he was so eager to find out more about these new feelings that he got carried away with it a little. Still, he didn't think he could stay away from her. He needed her, she made him feel complete. He felt safe in her company. Is this what love is? It scared him.

Giving Hazel the space she needed was a hard task for George but he knew it was the right thing to do. And maybe one day, she'll call him up, telling him she needs him just as much as he needed her.

Maybe one day.
