My breath caught in my throat as Emma walked down the aisle towards me, her older cousin walking her. He handed her off, and I couldn't help the small tear in my eye at just how beautiful she was. Our 2 daughters stood on either side of us. Abby smiles, her hair done up in a fashion similar to Emma's. Ellie had convinced us to let her shave her head, as well as dye it. We were a weird bunch, but we were family.
"Do you, Aubrey Plaza, take Emma Wright to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do."
"Do you, Emma Wright, take Aubrey Plaza as your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do."
"You may kiss the bride." I pulled her into my arms, dipped her low, and kissed her, the cheers of her family in the back ground. We slipped our rings on, and I picked her up, carrying her back down the aisle. We headed to a dressing room, and I helped her out the dress, and into the one for the party that was going to ensue. I took off my suit jacket and tie. We headed back out and our girls were all smiles. The girls were wearing matching dresses, Ellie in blue and Abby in red. They on heels, and looked so beautiful.
Emma's mom came over to us.
"The ceremony was beautiful."
"Thank you." We said, our fingers interlocked. Abby tapped on my shoulder, so I looked over.
"We're going to head to the snack table for some drinks."
"Okay sweetheart. Try not to spill."
"We won't Momma." I turned back to my now mother in law just in time to hear part of what she was saying.
"Aren't those dresses a little short? And they're far to young to be in those shoes."
I looked at my wife, and I saw a fire in her eyes.
"Why would the dresses be to short?"
"There's men here. What if they feel uncomfortable?"
"If they feel uncomfortable by 2 12 year old girls wearing dresses that go to their lower thighs, there's something wrong with them. The girls picked out the dresses, and we approved of everything before it was purchased. Our daughters shouldn't have to wear something they don't want to for other peoples comfort. They're not hurting anyone. They are simply here to celebrate the fact that their mothers got married." She huffs and walks away. I go grab my bag, and call Allie and Abby over.
"Since you two are staying with grandma, we want you to have these on you. Don't let her know you have them." They nodded.
"Can you hold on to them for the rest of the reception?"
"Of course. We already put our numbers in to. So just text us. If she makes you uncomfortable at any point, let us know and we'll come get you."
"I know, Momma. Now can we go dance?" I nod, and cant help the smile on my face watching them.
"I can't believe they're our girls."
"I know. It seems like just last week I found you in the mirror."
"Oh, that damn mirror." We laugh and continue to watch our girls. Soon, some of the cousins joined in. A slow song came on so I grabbed Emma.
"Let's dance." And we did. We took the center of the dance floor, dancing as if it was our last time. It was around midnight when everything started dying down. Both girls were passed out in a couple chairs and everyone else was just sitting around talking. I picked up Abby and one of our cousins picked up Ellie. We took them to the car. I told my mother in law that we'll bring the girls by the next day. We got home and I carried the girl up to their room, setting them in their respective beds. I took their heels off, letting them sit on the floor. I grabbed 2 shirts and 2 pairs of shorts and carefully changed the girls ad tucking them in. I headed back to our room, and looked over at the girls suitcases. I grabbed their phones and put them in the front pocket.
