"the only mistake that we didn't make was run"

soulmates are a difficult concept to wrap one's head around. 

at midnight on new year's eve every year, those who turn eighteen are assigned a star which they will share with their soulmate for the rest of eternity. flickering brighter or dimmer with proximity and distance, the stars are meant to bring direction, to chart the course for the rest of their lives.

the seconds tick towards twelve midnight, and jake wonders how it could be that the universe destines one person to belong to you for the rest of your life.

as it seems, the stars have different ideas of jake's future than he does his own. leaving behind the only person he ever loved, he moves on in life, entering university, finding a job, growing up, moving away.

somewhere in between he meets his soulmate, and he's confronted with the reality of love and destiny and things that haunt. finding peace is not an easy accomplishment, and jake knows this, but as the universe presents him with the hardest decision he has yet to make, choosing between his past and his future, he learns that the stars are not always the wisest of them all.
