If you did not read the description then I will repeat. I know there's a kaeluc tag, but this isn't exactly a story shipping them, it's there because this can be read as platonic, familial, or romantic, which ever you want it to be. I can't say I ship it but I can't say I DON'T either, i'm pretty neutral about the ship. But if there are antis here, do not say ANYTHING about the ship because it might start an argument. For those who do ship it, please just ignore those kinds comments, they'll be deleted when I see them.I noticed this Fandom is very problematic, and I know I mention this reminder a lot and it might come off as annoying at some point, but i'm just trying to be safe and make sure that there really won't be any conflict here.
As it said on my profile, I won't stand any toxicity on my account or anything bad being said unless it's you criticizing my writing, but not in an insulting way, so comments that have every means to offend the other party will not be tolerated, I do not wanna deal with any arguments in the comments. So if you don't mean to offend, be careful with your words. That's all, thank you.
You may proceed with the story.

"Diluc, you're a man who knows his own mind So, help me decide — is it seabird-hunting time or seashell-collecting time?"
Diluc looked at Kaeya in confusion. He tilted his head out of curiosity, slightly intrigued by what he was saying, and raising a brow. "What is that supposed to mean?!"
Kaeya plastered on a teasing smile, looking both disappointed and amused at the same time. He slightly nudged Diluc's shoulder with his own, chuckling at the redhead's comment. "Come now, Diluc, be nice! Do you really want to stay here and do nothing at all? We might as well find a way to pass the time. I simply thought collecting seashells might be fun. It was last time–"
As Kaeya faced him, he saw that his expression had shifted into something sadder, his smile turning solemn. His voice lowered and he wasn't too quiet, but if Diluc had been any farther from Kaeya, he would have mistaken what he said as a gust of wind that blew a little too close to his ear. "Although, we were much younger back then."
Diluc's eyes widened at the statement. Feeling a sense of happiness and guilt, knowing that with the memories they had cherished still there, maybe there was a chance to mend what had been broken, a way to recover the bond they shared as children. Perhaps this was the chance to connect the puzzle pieces they took so long to collect. Because if this was an invitation to go seabird-hunting or seashell collecting, then he'll gladly accept the offer. So he offered a small smile in return, facing him fully, and his eyes holding a much softer gaze than before.
"I didn't know you still remembered anything from back then..."
Kaeya laughed out, waving his hand in front of his face in a dismissive manner and his eyes squinting. As if implying what he said was the silliest joke in the world. "Of course I do!" He was joyed to see Diluc smile, even if it was only small, it was still something. So lost in the moment, he spoke without thinking, only realizing what he said when it was too late. "Just like how you almost killed me– Ah...!"
"Oh."
At that moment, he regretted opening his exposed eye, because what he saw was an expression he only saw once before, on one rainy night as the redhead looked at him, clutching the body of the man who raised them. His brows were furrowed as he spoke, voice barely above a whisper.
