Ow... my head. If feels like something hit me... My eyes shoot open as a rush of adrenaline kicks in. I feel like my life is in danger. But why...?
I look up, blinking to get used to the suns rays as they greet me through leaves from the trees surrounding me.
A jungle? No, a forest... but why am I- OW! There's instant pain when I set my talons on my head. I lower my head, noting that I can feel my brain against my skull, which is highly uncomfortable. Attempting to stop the painful throbbing, I move quickly to the protection of the cool shade under a tree. It doesn't really help. At least I don't feel "threatened".
Maybe I should just- Bam! A flash of a bright, golden color and suddenly I'm trapped under the pressure of another dragon. I try to lift my head up, but the dragon slams it back down onto the moist grass, making the throbbing worse.
"Who are you?" It speaks. This dragon is much bigger than me. He probably two times my size!
Before I answer, a deeper voice comes in, "What is it? Oh, another one?"
"Yeah, but this one's alive. Ooh, maybe I can kill this one?" The voice of the dragon holding me down sounded half excited. .
Kill?
Looking up, as best I can, I see the bright golden body of my attacker, his tail swinging back and forth as he taps my horn with his claw. It takes me a while to notice that his golden tail is tipped with pink fur. I recognize that... it's something about their...tribe..? Whatever it is, I don't have the time to worry about it, at least not now.
"I'm tired of seeing these Moltenwings showing up here, Oz." The dragon holding me down sighs. "It'd be easier if it were already dead. Like the others."
Moltenwing. I remember now, that's my tribe. It takes me a moment to process that be mentioned there had been other Moltenwings in this forest, but they were dead?
A softer toned voice spoke up. "I think it's better that this one's alive."
"Agreed..." The deeper voice, Oz, spoke with uncertainty.
"I still think we should kill him." Spoke the voice of the dragon holding me down.
"No. We need to interigate him." There was a more noticeable tone of command coming from Oz's voice.
"That seems a bit futile, dont you think?" The talons holding my head downs pressure let up, and, taking the opportunity to attempt to escape, I rolled to the side and the golden dragon fell over.
I rolled a little more before standing upright. I spread my wings, ready to take off, but before before knew it, I was once again under the grasp of the larger dragon.
He sure is quick to get back on his feel. I cursed umber my breath as his talons dug into my shoulder.
"That's enough, Alabaster." The dragon named Oz scolded. "We don't want to kill him."
"You mean you don't want to kill him." Alabaster remarked. "I, on the other talon, am hoping I get to."
"Alabaster." Oz commanded. "I hope you didn't forget what were supposed to do. The Queen told us specifically that of we found and alive Moltenwings, we were to bring them to the kingdom."
Alabaster scoffed and motioned Emerald to take his place. She paced up to us, and stood opposite of Alabaster. He released his grip on me, allowing me free will to move, but obviously not to escape."Oz, where are the chains?" He said as he glared at me. His eyes were full of hatred, and I couldn't help but lower myself under his gaze.
"I have them here."
Ashamed, I slowly stood up, avoiding eye contact with the dragon they called Emerald.
I arched my neck to look down to my left shoulder. Small hints of fresh blood drizzled down, indicating where Alabasters' claws had been dug into.
The sight of it made me feel slightly dizzy. . . I glanced at Emerald, who was staring back at me. She had a smile that went all the way back to her light green eyes.
"Uhh..." It felt very awkward being stared at. Especially by this dragon, who is with the two dragons that want to hold me prisioner.
She stared for a moment more before asking, "So, Moltenwing, what's your name?"
Oz pulled out a large bag made from some animal skin. It hit the floor with a loud sound as the chains inside clanked together. Curious, I tried looking past her, but she kept putting her face in front of mine, blocking the veiw of the two dragons untangling the heavy sounding chains.
"My... name?" I didn't mean to make it sound like a question, but since I didn't remember it, I guessed that was a logical response.
"Do you. . . Not remember your name?" She frowned for a moment, but brightened up in a creepy, enthusiastic way. "We could make one for you!"
"Make a name? You mean actually make!?" I said, shocked.
She nodded happily.
She's talking to me like I've known her for years, but that Alabaster guy looks at me like I've stolen his gold or something.
"I guess. . . But, if I figure out my real name, I'm keeping that, okay?" I decided to make sure she know I'm not keeping whatever name she gives me.
"But first," I figure I need to ask now, before I can't speak for who knows how long. No doubt they'll tie my snout shut. "What are you?"
She grinned and immediately stood proudly. Holding out her wings, she revealed her bold, yellow-golden scales in the sunlight. She flicked her tail and a light green fluff of fur on the tip flowed along, following the movement of her tail.
As she did her graceful movement, I examined the scales on top of her snout and head, over her eyes, and the coin-like scales around the top of her snout leading to her horns.
I spotted a small but thick chain necklace across her neck, with a red gem that brightly reflected the suns rays. It seemed to make me feel... how do I say... warm.
"Pssh, you've never seen a Crownwing?" She spoke with the most pride I've ever heard from any dragon. But this should count as the first time, because I can't remember a thing.
