"Coffee Sunday, New York Times

Little piece of paradise"

-Coffee Sunday NYT Leah Nobel

Today was like any other day; just a regular Sunday afternoon. My best friend since elementary school Harper and I had just finished another training session at the Canadian Police Academy. We met up with a few of our friends for coffee. We were the first ones at the cafe so we decided to order everyone's coffee. Harper went to find a table as I went to order the coffees.

"Hi, what can I get for you?" asked the barista

"Hi, can I get a medium vanilla sweet cream cold brew, a medium iced caramel macchiato with extra caramel, a medium caramel iced coffee, and a medium iced coffee please." I ordered with a smile.

"Yeah, sure. Is that everything for you?" the barista returned my smile.

"Yeah I think for now."

"Okay, I'll have your drinks done in a minute"

"Thank you" I said as I went to sit with Harper. By the time I went to sit at the table, our friend Taylor was already there. Max on the other hand didn't show up for another 10 minutes. He's always late so it wasn't a surprise when he showed up 10 minutes later than the time we said we were meeting up at.

"Hey, sorry I'm late. I had some things to do before coming here" Max said as he was walking up to the table.

"You always use that excuse when you show up late. Can't you just say that you are always late and that you just don't know how to show up on time." I said with a chuckle. Everyone laughed at my statement.

"You're so right Y/N. So what did I miss when I was late?" Max said laughing.

"Not much. Y/N and I were just telling Taylor about our training this morning and how we just finished our final evaluation." Harper explained to Max.

"Oh nice. How do you think you guys did?"

"Like always. We passed with flying colours." I said.

"Hell yeah!" Max and Taylor almost yelled.

I was about to continue talking with my friends when my phone started ringing.

"Hello?" I said while taking a sip of my coffee.

"Hi this is Erin Strauss, the section chief from the FBI's Behavioural Analysis Unit. Am I talking to Y/N Y/L/N?" She said in a stern voice.

"Yes, this is Y/N Y/L/N." I said more as a question than an answer.

"Hi Y/N. I've seen your grades and scores at the Canadian Police Academy and I think you would be a great fit for the BAU. I would like to offer you a job here." When she said this I internally freaked out because I was being offered my dream job, but I don't think I can take it.

"Oh wow umm, I would love to, but I don't live in the States and I don't think I have enough money to make that move from here to there." I explained. Once I said this, all my friends turned their heads to look at me to see who I was talking to.

"We have worked all of it out with your boss, along with the moving fees. We are just waiting for you to give us your answer."

"Umm, can I maybe take a bit to think about it?" I was pretty much speechless.

"Yes but I need an answer by the end of the week."

"Okay, thank you. Goodbye." I said with a sigh.

"Goodbye."

I get off the phone and all my friends are staring at me waiting for me to explain what my phone call was about. I was about to explain when I got cut off by Harper's phone ringing. While Harper was on the phone, all my friends were trying to talk to me to understand what my phone call was, but I waited for Harper to get off the phone so I could tell everyone at the same time. When Harper got off the phone, it looked like she had gotten the best news in the world.

"I just got a call from the FBI and they want to offer me a job at the BAU!" Harper explained.

"OMG! That's your dream job! I'm so happy for you!" Taylor said smiling.

"Wait, are you serious? I just got the same call from Section Chief Erin Strauss." I was surprised that we both got the same call within the minute.

"Yeah she called me too. She told me that she saw my scores here and thought that I would be a good fit."

"She said the same thing to me." I wasn't so surprised that she talked about our scores in the academy because we are both at the top of our class.

"So are you guys going to take it and move to the States together?" Max asked.

"I don't know. I said I would think about it" I told them. When I said that, all their faces dropped as if I had said that their cat just died.

"What! Why? This is your dream." Taylor said way too loud causing some people a few tables over to look at us to see if something was wrong.

"I don't know if I wanna move all the way to Virginia leaving my family here." I lied.

"Good point, but this is your dream and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity" Max said back to my lie.

"Well I have until the end of the week to give them an answer so I'll think about it. Harper, what about you? Are you going to take the job?" I tried to get them to stop asking me why I didn't automatically say yes to my dream job.

"Hell yeah, I'm going to take the job! This is what I've been working towards my entire career."

"Look at you two moving up in the world!" Taylor excalmed.

"I know, I'm so happy for you two!" said Max.

"Thanks" Harper and I said at the same time.

We all went back to drinking our coffees and talking about what it would be like if we took the job at the BAU. We eventually realized that we had been talking for quite a while and our coffees had gotten warm so we said our goodbyes.

I took the entire week trying to figure out if it was worth risking my secret coming out to pursue my dreams. By the end of the week I realized if I've kept it from my best friends for this long then I could probably keep it hidden from a few profiliers. So, I called Erin Strauss to accept her offer and join the BAU. Now Harper and I have until Monday to pack our entire lives into boxes and move to Virginia.
