It was a few weeks after the Giant War. People were still recovering physically and mentally. There was much to rebuild such as cabins, cleaning up the arenas and archery grounds. It was hard. There were many demigods that didn't make it through the war and all of them needed funerals and services. The first 2 weeks after the war were spent paying respects to all the demigods that lost their lives. Now everyone was trying their hardest to get things back to normal, or as normal for a demigod as possible.

Percy and Annabeth were sitting by the lake enjoying the sun and just basking in each other's presence. Ever since the war ended, Percy and Annabeth had been attached at the hip. Barely ever leaving the other's sight. Going through everything they had and almost losing each other so many times was difficult and they wanted to spend as much time together as possible. It felt as though if they left each other, even for a moment, they'd slip away and never find their way back.

Suddenly Katie Gardner, a daughter of Demeter, ran up to them.

"Percy you're needed at the Big House." He nodded to her signaling that he heard her and she rushed away, bound to either go planting or hanging out with Travis as the two had gotten together a few days prior.

Percy thought nothing of it as he had been needed in the Big House a lot these past few weeks. Not only was he a head counselor but also a big three kid and an unofficial leader at camp.

He got up offering a hand down to Annabeth, "let's go Wise Girl."

She took his hand and they headed off in the direction of the Big House talking and goofing around with each other.

When they entered the Big House the atmosphere instantly changed, it seemed like everyone in the room was tense.

Chiron was at the head of the ping pong table. Will Solace sat next to Nico on one side of the table. They had started dating about a week ago. Jason and Percy may have fangirled (fanboyed?) just a little.

Thalia sat on the other side. She and the hunters arrived about a week ago to help with the rebuilding and clean up.

This was new. All Greek big three children called to the Big House, Percy suddenly felt a bit uneasy.

"Percy, Annabeth please take a seat." Chiron motioned to the table. They sat down, Annabeth next to Thalia and Percy next to Annabeth, closer to Chiron.

"Now that you're all here we can begin." Chiron had a sorrowful look on his face.

"I'm so sorry, to all of you," he began, "a quest has been issued."

Immediately the table erupted. "WHAT!?" Everyone yelled, Percy stood up.

"No. I'm done. I made that clear."

Annabeth grabbed his hand. She was also angry but she had respect for Chiron and knew he was just the messenger. If he could have prevented this he would have. Percy sat back down with the support from Annabeth.

"Let's hear Chiron out," Nico placated. Ever the professional, Percy thought.

Will had a hand on Nico's thigh and Nico rested his hand on top of Will's. It was comforting for them both just like Annabeth interlocking her hand with Percy's.

"Right, thank you Annabeth, Nico." Chiron seemed nervous and kept wringing his hands together.

"So this quest was provided by Hecate herself. I apologize but there is no refusing."

Percy rolled his eyes and Thalia scoffed. Nico and Annabeth remained respectful, listening and taking in everything Chiron was saying. Will sat in silence but didn't look particularly happy.

"Also before I explain the details I will tell you who is going on the quest, not all of you will be going."

Percy felt his stomach tighten, he didn't like where this was going.

"Thalia, Nico and Percy will be going on the quest, Annabeth and Will will be staying here."

That's when all hell broke loose.

Percy stood up angrily, protesting heavily. They weren't going to separate him and Annabeth, no way in hell.

Annabeth was looking down her mind calculating every possible option. She was angry too, no doubt, but someone had to think about this rationally.

Surprisingly Percy wasn't the only one outraged enough to get up and yell. Will was also out of his seat yelling at Chiron. Nico looked up at him in shock.

When everyone calmed down Chiron asked for everyone to talk one by one. Starting with Thalia.

"I don't like the idea of going on a quest so quickly after the war but I will if it's necessary."

"Thank you. Annabeth?"

"I couldn't really care less about the gods right now but I do know the power they hold. If this quest came directly from a goddess then I don't think I can do anything to stop or change it." Annabeth finished glaring at the table wishing things were different.

"I do apologize deeply but Hecate was very specific with her instructions. Nico?"

"I understand that this is what was asked of me so I will do it."

And that was it. Nico may not seem like it but he was very respectful, especially to those with more power than him.

"Thank you Nico, Will?"

Now this interested Percy, he wondered why Will was so upset at the fact that they, namely Nico, were going on the quest. He knew they'd gotten together a week ago but it hadn't been that long.

"I don't think Nico is ready for a quest, besides his health is still really iffy. He needs recovery time, not more stress. Plus I need to keep an eye on him."

Everyone could tell that there was more he wanted to say but only Nico picked up on the unspoken words. Nico put his hand in Will's, for once initiating contact.

"We can talk about this later, okay?"

Will didn't look appeased but agreed nonetheless.

Chiron nodded in understanding, deciding to let them work it out together later.

"Percy?"

Chiron knew he'd be the most angry and irrational so he saved him for last. Percy knew this as well but that didn't calm his anger.

"I will NOT be separated from Annabeth. The gods have messed up my life before I even knew about them. I have fought, no not fought, I have led two wars for them. They don't deserve my help now. We went to Tartarus for them." He gestured to himself, Annabeth and Nico.

Percy struggled saying the word and Nico and Annabeth flinched once he got it out.

"I will not be pulled away from Annabeth and I won't put Nico's health in danger for some stupid quest."

Percy felt out of breath and rushed out of the room. Annabeth followed quickly behind. Chiron sighed and dismissed the other three telling them that they would discuss the details later. He was confident Annabeth could convince Percy to go but it still broke his heart to split the two of them.

How was he supposed to tell them it was for a year as well?
