Maybe murder hadn't been the best solution. Maybe you could've worked things out. Maybe, maybe not. It said not. Solidat. That's what you called it. That's what the bosses called it too. As long as they controlled The Solidat and Solidat controlled you, they had a loyal warrior.

The store owner hadn't even been the target. He'd just been in the way. If Solidat hadn't been in control, you would've just asked him to step aside, to let you through, but Solidat didn't ask, it took. So you watched as your metal arm squeezed the life out of the man who had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time and then you were back in your cell.

'It was a simulation then,' you thought to yourself. It was hard to tell anymore, especially in the rare moments when the Solidat stayed quiet and you got to be in charge. Horror washed over you at what you had done and you tried to push it down. That was the nice thing about the Solidat. It didn't let you feel guilty.

A loud crash startled you out of your reverey and you jumped to your feet.

"SOLIDAT," a loud voice came from the darkness, "Убить их всех!" ('kill them all!") but the Solidat remained silent.

"They were supposed to wipe me," you thought, realizing you were actually in control. The door to your cell flew open and you walked out, trying to act like Solidat. Luckily the base was in distress and no one noticed.

You walked outside for the first time in years and were met with a battlefield. An all too familiar shield flew past your head. On reflex your hand shot out and caught it out of the air. You used to block a gunshot from a redheaded woman, then rolled, hugging the shield to your chest like a security blanket. You let it go shortly after though, throwing it back in the direction it came from. A man caught it. A man, who like the shield, was ingrained in memories long ago stolen by Solidat. He charged at you before you could mull it over any longer.

You took defense, blocking his blows easily. At some point the strap of your mask had been damaged. The mask you had forgotten you were wearing. You only knew when it fully came off because the man stopped in his tracks.

"Y/n?"

"Who the hell is Y/n?"

There was a sharp pain in your neck and everything went black.

Your hearing came bcak from the darkness first. Beeping, hushed voices, footsteps. Then your sense of smell, medicine, cleaner. A hospital, you realized, you were laying in a bed at a hospital. You opened your eyes. The room was bright, too bright. The walls were white and a man sat in a chair beside your bed, the man with the sheild.

"Y/n?" He asked tentatively. Even his voice was familiar.

"Who?" You managed to ask, still too drowsy to pretend to hate him.

"You. You're Y/n." You didn't have the energy to shake your head, but you tried your hardest to deny it.

"I- I'm not- Solidat..." Whatever drug you were on must have been strong because your eyes slipped closed once again. Your dreams were filled with the face of the familiar man and the war. Steve.. You weren't sure what 'the war' was but that's what he kept calling it. He wanted to fight so bad.You wished you could tell him that it wasn't worth it. That the battle never ended once it started.

You woke up quietly, but all at once. You opened your eyes slowly, needing less time to adjust to your surroundings this time.

"Steve? You know, staring is creepy." You said to the man that called you y/n.
