My names Sophia. I'm 13 years old and I live on the streets. Okay, let me take you back. Right back. When I was 3 my parents split up. They weren't married, just going out. They were never sure if marriage would work for them. They both wanted children and that's how I came along. I can remember the lead up to the split. They were arguing for hours on end. I would waddle over, stumbling a few times on the way, and try and separate them. But it never worked. Dad just pushed me back, causing me to fall and hit my head on the floor. Dad would punch mum and kick her. He would slap me and shout at me. Once, he made me go without food for 3 days. He locked me in my room and didn't let me have a shower, eat, drink or go to the toilet. I was a mess. Mum was totally stressed out because she couldn't decide whether to ring social services or not. If she did, dad would quite literally kill her but if she didn't then she knew she was making her child's life horrible. Mum didn't ring social services, she just left it. Dad was quite an abusive man. This is one of the main reason they split.

When I was 4 my dad was killed. He got married to someone else and she shot him. No wonder seeming as he was abusive towards her. She got put in prison for 18 years and got a life sentence. So, I lived with my mum and her new partner. Things had worked out a lot better for mum. She had another kid whom she called Cody. Mums partner was called Dave. Dave was really nice and he looked after me like a real dad should. So, until I was 11, I lived with mum and Dave.

It happened when I was at school. It was my last day at primary school and I was 11. I was talking with my group of friends when the headmistress came and called me outside. She told me that Dave and mum had been in a car accident. She said that Dave had died instantly but mum was in hospital with a broken spine meaning she would be paralysed. I wasn't aloud to go to the hospital so I stayed with my friend for the night. The next day I was woken by my friends mum who had the phone in her hand. 'Its the hospital' she said.

'Hello. Look, Sophia. Your mum has been paralysed as you may know. But something unexpected happened this morning. She passed away. I'm sorry for your loss.' And with that the hospital lady hung up. My friend was going out and I wasn't aloud to go with them. So I made my way home. I unlocked the front door and everything felt so wrong. I didn't know what I was going to do with myself. Maybe have a few house parties. Everything people want to do but never can. Maybe catch a ferry to Paris. En fly from their to florida. I had 7 weeks to do anything and everything.

But that was never going to work out how I had hoped. I caught a flight to Lanzarote for 2 weeks and it was amazing. I used what was from my mothers and fathers and Dave's will. There was 1 million pounds altogether. I only spent two thousand on that trip. When I got back from that trip I had 6 house parties and 14 sleepovers in 4 weeks. I bough some scratch cards and lottery tickets through the Internet websites. I won £100. So if I kept going that would build up. I bough some more but didn't win any more. I wasn't fussed. I had loads of money in my bank.

So, I went to high school and my life was fine. No care workers no social services. It was brilliant. When I was 12 I decided to leave school. I was being bullied and people were getting on to the fact that I have no adult at home with me. I left home to as well as school. I walked to a town called Tredford. 50 miles from here, Birmingham. I started to make a living by singing on the street. I would sleep in the bus stops. I stayed in rural areas so that people didn't notice my age and didn't become curious.

So, that's where we are now. I'm now 13, still living on the streets. Still singing for money. Still in rural areas.
