"Thank you Garak, I know you probably have other things to be doing besides being here but your presence has been appreciated," Garak was seated in a chair beside where an unconscious Julian lay, staying close in case the other wake up in a panic and would hopefully be soothed by his spy "doctor". He gave a slight bow.
"Of course, after all, I've missed this much time away from my shop. I'm sure the lovely Klingon woman who I was in the process of making a dress wouldn't be any less upset after being two days late thus far... what's a third?" He smiled toward the nurse but was a little surprised to see no response back. Jabara had always been kind to him even with him being a Cardassian and all, he knew he must be getting bad news.
"I have informed the captain but we must take the doctor to surgery. You are dismissed from your duties of caring for the doctor. We believe to have been able to figure out how to remove the disease manually," Garak was a little surprised at the news.
Surgery had always been a slight fear to the Cardassian, especially when it came to humanoid lifeforms since they were such frail creatures being cut up. Sure by professionals, but there were still many complications even with the way medicine has progressed. It was unnerving to think the doctor has headed in that direction. He glanced at the doctor.
"What will you be doing to him?" He glanced up and smiled politely.
"I'm no doctor but I would like to hear the gist of it if you will," Jabara took in a breath, seeming to feel there was no hesitation. After all, he could tell she was a touch worried as well, he could tell in the way she kept casually throwing glances to her boss and the CMO of the station. They were work friends.
"The plant emitted a purple burst of energy that entered him like a breath. That disease seemed to have attached itself to the nearest organ it could begin to understand, the lungs...which could be an explanation for his shortness of breath and coughing...along with the weakness at the fever. Upon further inspection, the disease is acting as a tumor, although not a very deep latch, its enough that it is slowly sucking the life out of him...in theory we should be able to remove it surgically," Garak stared down at the unconscious doctor and thought long and hard.
The words, "In theory" rang in his mind. After all, it was a disease they had never encountered before. Every treatment thus far had been a theory. He blinked a few times...heavy blinks as many thoughts crossed his brain. He stood up and looked a tad bit down to the nurse.
"If it's all the same to you and If I'm not breaking any rules, I would like to stay in the infirmary for when he returns. After all, with an unknown entity like this he could return to his angered phase of the disease without me there to assure him everything is alright," Jabara nodded her head, letting a very slight smile get past her guarded and professional expression.
Garak knew that look, she knew that Garak didn't have to stay and he was rasping for reasons rather than feeling the obligation. He could return to his shop and face the less of a harsh wrath of a Klingon woman but after pondering, he decided he would rather stay here and wait for the doctor to safely return. Back to his old self.
"Of course, I should not have dismissed you so soon. You are still on duty as the caring friend once more. We'll be taking him shortly, we'll be having our doctors prepare the room," They both gave each other a knowing glance and Jabara walked off with her chart in hand to go check up on the surgical room.
They were left relatively alone with a worker off in the corner taking note of supplies. Garak sat back in his chair and watched the other stir slightly. After some momentary stirring, there was a soft cough. Garak got immediately closer and watched the other blink awake. He was covered in a blanket...looking as pale as ever.
