Built from obsidian and black stone, and guarded by one of the most powerful people on the server, Pandora's Vault stands tall not far to the west of spawn. Trapped inside is a single prisoner, the vault's maker, locked away with one life left after manipulating and traumatising children. A long disagreement known as the Disc War changed the server forever. Friendships were made, some were broken, others mended. But some will never be the same. From having all the power to having it be stripped away by the actions of a child, one man, though powerful, stood against thirty and lost, ending the war. He believed that by controlling people's attachments, he could regain control of the server. The control he once had. Though his methods were twisted, there was reason behind his actions. Nevertheless, two of his lives were taken in the stand against him. The only reason he lives now, trapped away forever, is due to a single possession: The Revival Book. As the only person on the server to have that knowledge, if he dies, death becomes permanent.
This brings us to Dream. Locked away from the server. Forced to live in an obsidian hell until his knowledge becomes required.
Dream sits against the dark purple wall and stares blankly at the bright lava that traps him. He knows that alone, he cannot escape. After all, he was the one who asked for the prison to be built and he knows every inch of the place. He knows how it works and he knows there is no leaving once inside. That is what crushes him most. The feeling of hopelessness. In his rise for power, he learned to strip himself of any attachments. He abandoned his friends, he lost care for his pets and any materials he owns. They are just things, objects to him. His desire for power turned him cold, almost heartless. But as he sits with infinite time, his thoughts overwhelm him.
Dream finds himself thinking of what life was before Tommy. Where the server was at peace, and he was free. Free to spend time with his friends, free to build whatever he wanted, free to go anywhere in the world. Just free. He doesn't permit himself to cry at what once was. And he certainly doesn't allow himself to miss his former friends. They're gone and won't want to see him. Not after what he did. Dream begs his mind to think of something else, anything else. He had only been in the cell for a few days and yet his thoughts were already betraying him.
He hears a sound from beyond the lava. Sam is doing his rounds. The clock on the wall indicates that night has arrived. The lava lowers for the first time since Dream arrived and Sam stands in full netherite armour on the other side. The two make eye contact for a moment before Dream looks away, internally furious by how weak he must look. He was once powerful, he considered himself to be a god. But he is caged up like an animal for all to see.
"You've been quiet. I'm just making sure." Is all Sam says.
Dream finds his eyes wandering back to look at his former friend and ally. He realises that those are the first words he has heard in days.
"There isn't much to talk about. Or people to talk to." Dream says bluntly.
Sam begins to lower the lava. "Light's out Dream."
Dream stands up and walks to the cell edge. "You and I both know that lights out doesn't apply to lava."
Sam does not reply and Dream has to duck out of the lava's way, a droplet of the scolding hot liquid landing on his arm. He grunts in pain and rushes to the cauldron where his cools his arm off, the burn stinging. He looks to the clock and it's inky black image of night. That thing is the closest he will get to seeing the outside world.
