“Cass!” Ashleigh practically throws herself into my arms on the Monday I get back to school. Hannah is away, as her birthday is this Friday and her parents are way too overprotective, at least in her opinion.
“How was it? How was it? What’s your power? What’s your power?”
“Chill, Ash,” I say, laughing at her eagerness. “I’ll tell you all about it.”
After we get ready for class and go to our first lesson, Blood Ed, she demands I spill the details.
“Why were you away for so long?” She demands. “I was practically bursting the whole week!”
I explain it to her the way my mother told me to. “It only lasted about 4 hours, but it was a lot more than I expected, so my mum let me take a few days off.”
“Okay, but what is your power? Come on, tell me!” She exclaims, almost jumping off her chair.
“It’s nothing special! I can read peoples emotions, apparently its a Argenia slash Aeris thing.”
“Awesome! That is so cool! Read me!”
The reason we chose this power was because it is so easy to read peoples emotions off their face, and I in particular have a knack for telling how someone feels.
My mother knew someone who had the ability to read what blood was in a person, so she thought that if I pretended to have a power, it would be safer than pretending to be ordinary.
“Well you’re excited, thats the main thing.” She giggles and claps her hands like a grade schooler.
“Yay! Power sisters!” She hugs me. “I can’t wait to see Hannah when she gets hers!”
Mr Intag walks in. “Alright class, lets get started...” Ashleigh turns back to her desk and everyone faces Mr Intag as the class starts. I’m glad my cover story worked, but I’m still slightly worried that it won’t work on everyone. Only time will tell, I guess... I think to myself.
