If Chloe had been nervous about them being awkward after sex, it was for no reason. Lucifer is ever the gentleman and hands her a wet cloth to clean herself and even goes to the bar to fetch them two tumblers of bourbon, probably just to give her a moment of privacy. Somehow, it's easy to be naked around someone who feels as confident without clothes as Lucifer. For him, it's an absolute non-issue to walk around the penthouse naked, and Chloe appreciates the view. She doesn't cover herself either with his luxurious sheets like people do in movies. What good would it be? He has seen all of her now anyway.
They end up cuddling in bed, drinking Lucifer's top shelf booze and exchanging whispered words of affection and kisses that taste like whiskey, and Chloe wonders if they would ever have been able to be this relaxed with each other the way they are now if they had taken this step earlier.
"Tell me why you have so many freckles," she whispers between kisses against his collarbone. "You're not sensitive to the sun, are you?"
Lucifer chuckles lightly. "No, that would be quite the irony, wouldn't it?" When she looks at him a little puzzled, he adds, "Given that I made it, I mean."
"You made... the Sun." She closes her eyes and shakes her head slightly, as if it might help to process the idea.
"Yes, but you already knew that I created the stars, didn't you? We've talked about that before."
"Yes. Yes, of course I know that, and I still can't fully wrap my head around that to be honest. It's a bit easier to grasp when the stars are little dots far away, but the sun is just so close that I simply forget to think of it as a star."
"In my time here, I've come to believe that sometimes, the things right before our eyes can be the hardest to see," Lucifer whispers. He kisses her head and nuzzles his nose in her hair as she sinks onto his chest, her ear above his heart.
They lay in comfortable silence, fingertips running over skin unhurriedly, until Lucifer starts talking again.
"I've had those freckles for as long as I can remember. I was created with them, they don't ever change with or without the sunlight. Even when I was in hell for millennia, they never faded, and I can guarantee you that no single sun ray ever reaches that haunted place. But, would you like to know a secret?" He nudges her off his chest so he can look at her, then lowers his voice as he confesses, "Back when I made the stars - I used some of the more prominent patterns of my freckles for the constellations. But shhh...", he raises his index finger in front of his lips to prove his point, "don't tell anyone. I didn't tell Dad, and he never noticed. Don't know what he'd do if he ever found out about that. Probably rearrange them."
Chloe pretends to lock her lips with her fingers and throw an imaginary key over her shoulder, while her head spins at the idea of God shoving stars around the universe - Lucifer's stars - just because he wouldn't want to be reminded of his son. Even if Lucifer's comment, muttered as an afterthought, was meant to be ironic, there was a hint of bitterness in his tone that suggested it wasn't just a joke, and her heart ached for him. Even if there were so many things she didn't and would never fully comprehend about his life, some things were not that hard to understand: The rejection he had to live with, the loneliness, the many unanswered questions.
"Care to show me a few of these constellations?" she asks, and the smile spreading all over Lucifer's face warms her heart.
"I'd love to, but I don't think we can see them very well from here with all the lights from the city. But we can try. Just give me a moment."
He gets up, giving Chloe a nice view of his bare ass as he walks over to his closet. The view of his front side isn't bad either, though, as he comes back towards the bed and hands her one of his white dress shirts.
