Its 1989, four friends decided to go to Italy for summer break. It sounds like an amazing idea doesn't it? They think it is but maybe they didn't think everything through completely. You could say they definitely missed a few red flags but they were going to make the most of it anyway, at least they thought so. Well, this is the story of how they went missing.
We were already driving in this stupid hot van for hours. "Aren't we supposed to be there already?" I asked Bruce "Yes and we are... at least almost." He said it with confidence because was one of those 'know it alls' you know, people who think they know everything better than everyone else. We still loved him though. He was like the father of our friend group; he had planned everything out, booked our hotel, carried our passports, other important documents and so on. Olivia, who was sitting in front of me, turned to face me and rolled her eyes. We were thinking the same thing. "Look! We are here!" Cayden screamed next to me. "See i told you we were almost there." "Alright, alright you win."
Once we got out of the old white van that Olivia borrowed from her dad, since it was just standing in their garage, me, Cayden and Olivia sighed out in relief from finally being able to stretch our legs. "O come on people, it really wasn't that bad." The three of us turned to look at Bruce. "With your driving skills... Yeah it actually was that bad." Bruce looked pretty annoyed at Cayden for making that comment. "Jeez sorry Bruce didn't know it was that time of the month." Bruce gave him the finger and stuck his tongue out to Cayden like a child, he is 19. "Alright guys, done fighting? Let's go check in and check the rooms". "Shotgun the bigger room!" Cayden came running from behind me and Olivia. His backpack was almost sliding off his back while running like a maniac to the entrance of the hotel. "No, I get to have the bigger room Cayden!" I started running after him causing me to almost drop my mixtape that was in my hand. "Maybe if you get there first Sadie!" He yelled out of breath while sprinting into the lobby of the hotel with me right on his tail. The hotel was huge, I didn't know Bruce booked us such a nice hotel. Once we were inside Cayden suddenly stopped running which caused me to crash into him. I was sitting on the ground now. "A little heads up next time wouldn't be so bad Cay." I said while looking up at him.
Everybody who knows Cayden long enough can call him Cay and we basically grew up together; We went to primary, high school and now we are in college together. We were like the og's of our little friend group. Olivia, better known as Liv, joined us in the sixth grade and we instantly became friends with her. Bruce had always been a friend of cayden and me but since we all went to college together we became a lot closer.
He reached his hand out in my direction so I could stand up. "Sorry Sadie, didn't know you were falling for me." He said while winking at me. Ugh. I took his hand and stood up. "Guys get over here, we might want to check in before we start running in random directions." Said Liv, and who wouldn't listen to Liv? She was the perfect girl, brown curly hair, big brown eyes, rich parents, pretty boyfriend and super sweet. Everybody loved her and so did we.
She and Bruce were following us into the lobby of the hotel. We decided to first check in and divide the rooms between us before we dragged all of our luggage into the hotel. We had to divide the rooms because Bruce got one slightly bigger room because it had a beautiful view of the sea. We waited for Bruce and Liv to catch up on us and we all walked towards the counter together while admiring the beauty of the hotel. We were really surprised Bruce found us such a nice hotel for not a lot of money. "Ciao posso aiutarti con una cosa?" Yeah... None of us knew Italian, we still had to figure out how the hell we were going to communicate with people in a country where almost no one knew English. Luckily the boy behind the counter spoke some English. "Ehm excuse me, do you maybe speak English sir?" Bruce asked insecurely. I know I said he is a 'know it all' but he sure as hell aint social. "Aah finally some English folks are on the doorstep! My name is Alberto, can I help you guys with anything?" Alberto wasn't much older than us, probably about 19, 20. He had a pretty rough Italian accent but he could still speak really good English. "Yes, hi. We reserved two rooms under the name Dominguez?" You might think that that is a pretty odd English surname... You're right, it is. It's actually Spanish, you see Bruce's dad is Spanish so Bruce is half spanish. When you looked at Bruce you could immediately tell he was Spanish, he had these big brown eyes, black hair and was always tan. When we were younger we always made him say Spanish things. He probably didn't like that now that I look back at it. "Ah yes, you guys are on the fifth floor. Your room numbers are 332 and 333. 333 is the room with a view of the sea. You can take the stairs right there and then the little yellow signs on the walls will take you straight to the fifth floor. Do you guys have anymo-" Alberto was cut off by Cayden. Without any hesitation Cayden grabbed the keys to room 333 out of Alberto's hand and ran straight to the stairs. "Cay I swear to god if you don't wait for me right now! Get back here!" I yelled at him while I was already running after him. I think my legs went quicker than i actually thought cause i almost face planted right there and then. "Cay, Sadie mind your steps you might..." Bruce screamed after us. "Trip." He said way quieter knowing we were too busy chasing after each other than actually listening to him. "Sorry Alberto they act like fucking kids sometimes." Liv said while she grabbed the keys to the other room out of his hands. "Ooh it's alright, i'm already happy enough that there are people in this place again. It's so lonely here sometimes it almost feels like I'm not alone, you know?" Bruce and Liv smiled and nodded at him while saying thanks and walked towards the stairs. "What the hell was that supposed to mean? What is this, like the start of some bad horror movie?" Bruce laughed at her comment, but she was right. What the hell was that supposed to mean?
