It's hot, too hot for anything but that's kinda what you have to expect from Texas summers. I personally hate summers here, my older brother newt on the other hand loves them. He usually complains about having to go to Minnesota to visit our grandparents for summer, he says it's too cold up there, however I love it, I've always hated the heat. Anyway we were going to Minnesota and we stopped in Tennessee, it was sorta hot there too but not as hot as Texas. "Dad, can you turn the ac up? It's so hot." I ask my dad from the back seat. "A little heat never kills anyone." my brother says to me with a smirk. "Actually people can die from being overheated." I reply to him in my usual smartass tone. Newt then reached across the seat, grabbed me by the neck and started to rub my head with his knuckles. "Both if you stop it!" Our mom yelled from the passenger seat. "Yes ma'am." We both said in unity along with my brother letting go of me. Our dad didn't say anything, being as quiet as a mouse he turned the ac up and the radio volume to mute.
Two hours later we arrived at a hotel in Tennessee. My brother and I waited in the car and mom and dad went in to rent us a room. I looked over to Newt then out the window "you're sleeping on the couch." I said with that smartass tone again. Newt simply turned to me and scoffed. "Fine!" He said mumbling looking out the window. "Um laza what's that?" Newt asked, pointing out his window at what looked like an asteroid, he had called me laza as a nickname short for lazareth. "It looks like an as-" I was cut off by a newt bolting out of the car by the time I got out he was gone. I had seen three asteroids. I had to narrow down which one he would try to follow.
I went to the one that landed to our right and saw a blue glow I moved further down to investigate. Once I had gotten down to the asteroid I saw a girl who was glowing blue and had no clothes on, I quickly covered my eyes. The girl had turned to me giggling then looked down at her own body. "Oh I'm sorry I'm underdressed" she giggled. I uncovered my eyes and handed her my coat. It was a little big on her. "T-thank you." She said to me with a smile. "What's your name?" She asked me. "L-Lazareth," I said nervously, "You're really pretty." I added. "Oh thank you" she hugged me and smiled the blue glow fading "my name is kumin" she said keeping a smile on her face. I smiled and blushed from the hug. "It's nice to meet you kumin." I say nervously. "It's nice to meet you too Lazareth." She said let go of me. We eventually made it back to the car where my parents were with a newt and a new friend he said he had met in the woods, when we walked up to them Kumin had hid behind me wrapping her arms around my waist. The boy next to Newt looked at the arms wrapped around my waist and raised an eyebrow, "oi! What's my little sister doing holding onto you like that?!" The boy asked, grinding his teeth. "I-I" I couldn't get any words out of my mouth. Newt looked at the boy. "Calm down, my lil bro has always made better friends with girls than guys." Newt whispered to him, snickering. The boy scoffed and looked at me, "Do you two need a place to stay?" My mom asked the boy. "Sure" the boy said, Kumin just poked her head out and nodded.
We made our way into the hotel room, newt and his new friend slept in the living room and kumin slept in my room in the bed with me, she cuddled me a bit shivering, I don't really know why, she was covered in the blanket but as soon as I turned around and wrapped my arms back around her she smiled and slept soundly.
The next morning I was the first one awake so I got up and took a shower and once I finished that I went to the kitchen to make breakfast. Once I got to the kitchen, Kumin was sitting there already and she had some of my clothes on, smiling at me. "Good morning." I say smiling back at kumin. Kumin simply tilted her head at the phrase. "It's a type of greeting" I add, chuckling a bit. Kumin looked at me "but we already know each other, why would we need to greet one another again?" She asked, the smile fading. "Well it's just something nice that people say in the mornings" I reply, handing her a plate of eggs and bacon. "Oh well good morning Lazareth" she said, the smile returning as she looked at the eggs taking a bite.
Eventually Newt walked through the door with a bad bed head and made himself a breakfast burrito. "Morn-" he was cut off by a yawn. "Morning laza" he finished his sentence. I sat down next to Kumin and drank some orange juice through a straw then glanced over at her. I put another straw in the cup and signaled for her to drink some. She leaned over the cup and put her mouth on my straw and sucked the juice out of it. I smile and watch her drink some and drink some myself with the other straw. I was happily drinking from the straw until the juice wasn't coming through the straw. It was cold. I looked down and it was frozen. Kumin looked up at me and blushed "s-sorry!" She said in a panic. "No no it's alright no need to apologize" I say, giving her a reassuring smile. "Awe, is this your girlfriend? She's wearing your clothes and sleeping with you," Newt teased, laughing a bit. I blushed heavily, and Kumin looked at me, "girlfriend?" She said, confused by the phrase. "It's like a partner, someone you love and care for," I explained nervously. "Do you love me Lazareth?" She asked, a little dumbfounded. I blush more and more at the question "I-I" I pause as Newt just laughed. "Yes! I do kumin" I said nervously, glaring at newt. Kumin blushed "I-I meant as friends of course"
"I l-love you too, I suppose," she said nervously. Eventually mom and dad woke up and Newt went to wake Kumin's brother up. "Everyone ready?" My dad asked happily. "Yes sir" we all said in unity. Kumin and I were sitting together in the furthest back seat and Newt and her brother were sitting in the back seats. Kumin started to cuddle up with me and eventually fell asleep, her brother gave me a death glare.
I woke up in the car, kumin was sitting next to me yet everyone else was out of the car. She giggled a bit from me walking up. "Morning ku-" I was cut off by a yawn "morning kumin" I finished my sentence. She wrapped her arms around me and sat in my lap. "Good morning Lazareth" she smiled at me. I blushed heavily with her sitting on my lap then looked up at her and smiled nervously. I looked out the window and saw snow, that made me believe that we were in Minnesota and we were but not in the right place. I pulled my phone out and looked at google maps, we were in St Cloud Minnesota, we needed to go to Pine city. I was thinking of getting out of the car and looking for everyone else, but Kumin looked like she was enjoying herself sitting in my lap so I wrapped my arms around her and cuddled her a bit.
Over some time she got off me and we both got out and looked around, there was no one to be found. "Where do you think they went?" I asked kumin. "I don't know." She said looking under the car. "Um Lazareth?" She signaled for me to come to her, and I did so looking underneath the car at some kind of portal. "What the he-" I was cut off by the portal vibrating and sucking the car through. I jumped back pulling kumin with me. Kumin and I got up and looked at the portal then to each other. "L-Lazareth I'm scared," Kumin says shivering. I hug her tightly. "There's no need to be kumin," I say as she hugs back. I break the hug and we hold each other's hand interlocking our fingers and jump into the portal together, the portal had disappeared when we went through.
I woke up in what looked like a forest covered in snow, there were streets and houses. It looked like a small town, though it was almost like a ghost town. I looked around, I didn't see Kumin anywhere. I panicked and ran around the small town "KUMIN!" I yelled out. no response came from anywhere, I was utterly alone.
I teared up in defeat, she was nowhere to be found... Until, I saw a blue light in the distance, the same one I saw when I met her. I walked up to it, it was merely a crystal, I picked it up and put it in my backpack. As soon as I touched it I heard a voice telling me directions, but to where.
Fear, fear was all I could feel at this moment as I walked the dark snowy streets alone. That word. Alone. Interesting isn't it, but is anyone truly alone? I mean Christians believe there is a god with them at all times. But no, I was alone. I found a small pond just north of the small town, I drank some water and my face fell in. I saw my parents, my brother, and Kumin's brother all trapped, in what looks like a cell, but no kumin. disappointment, I had that feeling all over my face "Where is she?" I asked myself. "I hope she's okay!" I said to myself in a panic . I started to hyperventilate until I felt a wooden stick hit my head.
