It was a moment.

Just one.

Everything I had ever known to be true faded into a meaningless pile of contradiction and irrelevance.

The rain that was pattering against the windows fell silent and the grainy tone of the jukebox droned into nothing.

In a singular instance my heart stopped, my breathing ceased, and all of the air escaped my body.

It was a short-circuit.

A halt in function.

A loss of signal.

Everything around me had shifted into a state of nonexistence.

In a singular instance, absolutely nothing else mattered.

Because there you were.

"How did you sleep, Bug?"

Walking into Treff's.

"You're nice, Harry, epicly sweet when you want to be."

Sporting your signature dimpled grin that I knew by heart.

"Quit moving, bug, you're gonna smudge your nails and I am not starting over again."

Holding a soaked bright yellow umbrella.

"And that's why I'm here, to keep you safe from the storms."

With bright yellow rain boots to match.

"Have you ever been arrested?"

"You'll be my Clyde then?"

"Bug in the bathroom, bug. Don't squash it. Here's a cup."

"What does this one mean? And this one?"

"Cook me dinner and I'll draw you a little doodle on your coffee cup in the morning. Promise."

"Have you ever considered getting an earring? Just one?"
