"Not really. I mean we were good, but Calum wasn't."
"You're right you guys were good, but Calum he was great. He was the best by far." I wink at Cal.
"But he looks like an Asian." Luke says.
"Thanks so much guys. I should have known this was a bad idea." Calum gets up, and walks out the door.
"Luke, I can't believe you. Calum doesn't look Asian. You all know that his mom is from New Jersey, and his dad is Kiwi. I can't even understand why you'd do that." I shake my head, and chase after Calum. Mike tries to stop me, but I don't listen to him. I run out the door and search for him. He sits in the grass underneath a tree. "Cal!" I call.
He then looks up, and gives me a wry smile.
I take a seat next to him. "I don't know why they have to be such jerks. I told them off for you though."
"Thanks Ky. I owe you."
"No you don't. It's what friends do for each other."
"Out of all of us who do you like the best? Besides Mike because he's your brother."
"That's not fair," I say, but in my head I'm saying you.
"It is too, and I don't mean like a friend. I mean like more than that."
"Do I have to answer that?"
"No I guess not." He gives me a disappointed look.
"I don't mean that I don't like one of you that way. I just don't want to make things awkward, and if Mike finds out he'll make you guys stay away from me."
"Come on. I won't tell, and you can't keep letting him tell you what to do with your life."
"But he's my brother. And I don't want you to hate me if I answer."
"I could never hate you Ky, you're my best friend."
I give him a look that says it's always been you, and I hope he gets my message. I think he does because he grins.
"Come on, say it. I won't make it weird."
I lean in and whisper it in his ear. "You."
"That can't be right." He shakes his head in confusion.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"I'm me, and you're you."
"What is that supposed to mean?" I'm now offended.
"I didn't mean it like that. I meant well, you know." He says awkwardly. "You're hot."
"No I'm not. Unless you're kind of hot is ugly."
"You're obviously not ugly."
"My legs are too long, my nose is too small, my eyes make me look Chinese." I'm about to continue, but Calum cuts me off by kissing me. I freeze, but then I start to soften and kiss him back. I wrap my arms around his neck. Then we hear someone open the front door, we jump away from each other hoping no one saw us.
"Calum I'm sorry. I was just kidding." Luke approaches us.
"Luke it's okay. I forgive you."
"Friends?"
"We'll always be friends."
"Let's go back inside."
"Okay, one second."
Luke nods then walks back inside. Calum doesn't let me say anything, he just kisses me again. Then gets up, and holds out his hand. I take it and he pulls me on my feet, but I stumble and fall into him. He catches me and straightens me up, then we walk back into the house. Everyone still sits inside exactly where they were before. Only this time when Luke sees us, a smile spreads across his face. We take a seat next to him. He leans toward me and whispers, "I saw Calum kiss you, you know."
I jump, and quickly shake my head.
"Don't worry I won't say anything to Mikey, I promise."
"You can't tell Ash either." I tell him.
"I won't. I swear."
I nod, then lean toward Calum. "Luke saw us." I say quietly.
"I'm sorry. It's my fault."
"He said he wouldn't tell." I pause. "Can I tell you something?"
"Sure."
"Don't freak out, please." I plead.
"I won't."
I take a deep breath. "I love you, Cal."
His eyes light up, and he says. "I love you too, Ky."
