The Girl || Yeah Yeah

Prologue

It was always weird to people that I played baseball. Not many girls played softball in my area, so i worked with what i had.

Everyday for 3 years i had been playing with them, and it was all thanks to benny. The boys didn't always respect me, but benny was always by my side.

Today was different though. Today would be the day I broke the chain. My cousin Scotty was driving in today and i had to hang out with him. I tried to get out of it but my mom wouldn't let me.

I got dressed and walked outside with my mitt in hand. I figured maybe he'd play catch with me.

I knocked on the door and my aunt Sharlene answered. "MACKENNA!" She pulled me into a tight hug. I walked inside as she introduced me to her new husband bill.

"You play softball?" He asked motioning to my mitt. "No, baseball actually. Theres no softball teams around here so..." he was slightly shocked but also amazed.

"Scotty! You cousins here!" Scotty came rushing down the stairs. "Hey." I waved slightly.

"So... Wanna play catch?" He looked nervous at first but eventually went with it. We went to his backyard and i tossed him the ball. He used his hands to sheild his face. I held a face of shock.

"Throw it back smalls." He did but it hit the ground and rolled. My mouth hung open. I threw it again and it hit his shoulder. I knew it would bruise right when it hit.

"Shit." I brought him inside and put an ice pack on it. Once he calmed down he looked at me. "I uh, noticed you play baseball with a group of boys and i was kinda- maybe you could take me to hang out one day?" I rolled my eyes.

"Kk, listen smalls, your not exactly baseball material?" He looked offended but he knew it was true.

"Uhhh, ya sure whatever, it was a stupid idea anyways so." We sat in awkward silence for a moment before aunt Sharlene walked in.

"Oh no, did you get hurt?" She came over to scotty. "We were playing catch." I said.

"Just took my eye off the ball, thats it." She smiled at me sadly. She motioned for me to follow her while scotty stayed put.

"Mackenna, you can go hang out with your friends if you want hun, you dont have to stay here." I smiled but tried to be polite.

"Really, its no problem. I can stay here if you want." She looked down sadly.

"Scottys just been so lonely lately, but its ok."

Dont give in. "He can hang out with me and my friends if he wants." Damn i said it.

"Wonderful idea! Scotty! Go follow mackenna! Your gonna hang out with her and her friends." He looked disgusted.

"Mom, i dont really know if a bunch of girls want to hang out with me." This bitch thought i had girl friends to.

"Umm, you do know i dont have any other friends right? Except for ophelia." He cheered up a bit.

"Kk, lets go." He followed me to the sandlot. It was a normal day when i got there, the boys playing right where we left off.

"Im here!" They all paused there game to come over to us. "Hey yeah yeah." He looked at me.

"Did you get shorter or did i get taller?" Some of the boys laughed. "Yeah yeah, well your just mad you didnt strike me out yesterday."

"K, but maybe today I will."
"But maybe you wont."
"But i w-"

"Girls, stop flirting and get back to the game." Benny said. I flipped him off before walking to bat.

I had almost forgotten that smalls was there. "Throw me your heater Kenny." He hesitated but nodded.

I hit it with ease and started running. I stopped when i heard a loud thump. I looked over and Smalls had fallen.

Everyone started laughing. I tried to hold mine in but it didnt last. "Hey ill get it!" He yelled.

"Who the fuck is that kk?" Ham asked me.

"Yeah yeah, whose that?"

"My cousin Scotty. He just moved in so my aunt made me bring him." I rolled my eyes.

"Ohhh, did aunty make you do it? Boo hoo." I walked forward a bit.

"You little-" i stopped because ham had pushed yeah yeah ontop of me.

He froze for a second. "Are you gonna get up?" I asked laughing a bit. "Yeah yeah, right." He got up and helped me up as well.

We looked back at smalls who was about to throw the ball. Benny was the only one not yelling at him or laughing. He threw it and it made it about 3 feet before hitting the ground.

They all laughed but when i saw smalls expression i scolded them. "What are you laughing at yeah yeah? Your throw sucks ass compared to everyone elses."

"Yeah yeah, well fuck you kk."

"Oh i bet you'd love too." Squints said. Ham made kissing sounds.

"Ya he wishes." He flipped me off. "Oh shit i gotta go, be back later, kk?"

I ran off to find the missing smalls.

A/N writers block to the next level. Anyways i do have ideas for the next chapter. Also updates will be slow as to the fact i have school then volleyball and sometimes more. I will try to have at least one part out a week.
