You yawned, stretching as you got out of bed. You had thirty minutes before it was time to start walking to school, and so you went to wash your face and get dressed. You didn't normally dress too fancy for school, unless you felt like getting a confidence boost, but for some reason you'd wanted to wear something fancier today. A stylish black shirt over dark red pants, and that was good enough.
Despite your school having a uniform.
Eh, whatever. You wanted to look good, and so you would. You yawned again, stretching in a way so satisfying. Stretching was good. Mm..
You were feeling strangely content this morning, despite having fallen asleep late (because of Baji). He had better pay you- and well. You'd given up your (empty of business) afternoon and evening helping him out. You'd started with his english grades, as they were his worst.
He had trouble spelling, and would often get points off for it. It made you wonder if he had dyslexia- but it'd be rude to just assume that, so you'd wait a bit and help him. He might genuinely just be bad at spelling.
You were still tired while walking to your classroom calmly, sort of envious of the people around you fooling around with their friends. You want that excitement back in your life; the joy of seeing your friends, of waking in the morning and feeling alive because you could be with people you love.
You spoke too soon.
"Sensei-" Baji rushed up to you like an excited puppy, a teasing grin on his lips as he called you by the stupid nickname. Nevermind, you want your calm, quiet, loner life back already.
Immediately, you wacked him on the head lightly, "Shut the fuck up."
"You look tired- is that because of me?" he questioned staring intensely at your dark eye bags.
"What do you think, idiot?" you stared blankly at him.
"So it is because of me- sorry about last night, I really didn't mean to tire you out," he sheepishly apologized, unaware of some other students passing by with flushed of embarrassment on their cheeks upon hearing his words.
He did not realize the wrong context that could be taken from his words, "Shut up, it's like you don't even know what you're saying.. just pay me."
"Hm? Uh.. okay, I'll pay you," he said, fishing out some dollars for you.
"You really don't understand that, huh, idiot?" you sighed, pinching your nose bridge.
"Anyways! I told my mom about my tutoring and how long you tutored me for, so she gave me what should be a good amount. After all, you tutored me for, like, five hours..." he handed you a wad of cash.
"Holy shit," you whispered, counting the ten twenty dollar bills, "Are you rich?"
"Eh?"
Forty dollars per hour. Two-hundred dollars. In one evening.
Your jaw was open wide as you mentally calculated how much money you could make if you tutored him about minimum two hours per weekday, four hours on weekends..
Eighty x 5... 400.. 4 x 40 = 160.. 160 x 2.. 320..400 + 320..
$720.
If you estimated minimum times and a schedule, that's $720 a week. Seven-hundred twenty dollars or so per week. His mom had to know how much a tutor could cost! But forty dollars?! Holy shit-
You could buy so much shit from this! What the fuck, Baji is loaded. Why isn't he at a top middle-
Wait. Was he at a top middle school before being kicked out-
Your eyes were wide.
Baji's a rich kid. That explains so much. His clothes are strangely neat, his hair is strangely good-looking, and even his fucking skin looks clear. He's a rich kid, guaranteed. A pretty, rich kid. A brat, and an idiot, but damn you'd date him just for his wallet-
If you were the type of person to date somebody for that. You weren't that shallow.
You were, however, greedy, and would therefore be tutoring Baji even more often.
"Baji-san," your eyes sparkled as you grabbed his hands and came closer to his face, oblivious to his face slightly flushing, "We are going to have many more sessions."
Even you were unaware of the picture you were painting with your words.
--
The next time you came over to tutor Baji, it was at his house- this way, you'd spend only the two hours together, and you wouldn't end up falling asleep at any point. Hopefully.
He would bring you to his house directly after school, he said. You figured you'd walk or maybe take public transport.
He showed up on a motorcycle.
Which, in all honesty, was super cool. Like, holy shit. You never imagined getting on one (because it's pretty damn scary, since you have no clue how to ride a motorcycle nor have you ever driven anything in your life), but here you are, about to.
Although slightly terrified, you ended up just clinging onto Baji the entire ride there, all whilst closing your eyes against the back of his jacket to keep the wind out, despite the helmet you wore. Well, now you were closing your eyes so none of his long-ass hair would get in your eyes.
"We're here!" he announced, parking in front of a large house. You blinked tiredly.
"You are definitely a rich kid.." you whispered as you entered the home. You'd be sheepish if not for how uncaring you'd become. You just didn't let your anxiety affect you.
"Eh? Uh.. I guess so?" Baji shrugged.
You went to the living room to work at the table, Baji bringing out his textbooks and some snacks.
"It's just me and my mom, 'cause my dad and her divorced, so he just pays some child support," Baji explained, "So my mom'll get back at some time near, like, six, maybe? She's a lawyer."
You squinted at him, about seventy-percent sure that he's a delinquent. Why, pray tell, was he a delinquent if his mother's a lawyer?
You questioned it not.
"Okay. Let's get started, then?"
"Yes!"
--
"I don't understand numbers," Baji looked close to tears, while you were ticked off. But you had to remind yourself others don't learn things as quickly as you do.
"Think of it this way," you started off, before explaining how to do the problem, showing him your method.
He blinked at you in surprise, "This is so much easier than what they taught us.."
"Mm, yeah," you agreed, before continuing with explaining and showing him examples. Baji just looked at you in awe. You always seemed to surprise him. What was amazing to him, you just thought of as average.
You were amazing.
