Chapter 1

I was walking down a hall. It was very dark and narrow. I could barely see two steps ahead of me.

I heard footsteps behind me. My legs started running faster and faster against my will.

I could see the end of the hall. There was a door. I ran up to it and tried to open it. Locked. Typical.

The footsteps were getting louder and louder until the person to whom they belonged to couldn't have been more than two meters away.

I screamed.

I was in my bed in a cold sweat. There were tears streaming down my eyes. I glanced over at my little sister, Hayley, in the bed next me.

She turned onto her side, her dark ringlets in bunches on either side of her face. She was very cute when she wasn't talking.

I settled down again. After all tomorrow is the first day of school.

Goodbye summer, goodbye life. I thought, before I fell back into a dreamless sleep.

I woke up to my alarm clock ringing. I groaned. I grabbed a random pair of school pants and shirt ,and made a beeline for the bathroom before my older brother, Andrew, hogged it.

I ran out to the hall and smelled the bacon that granddad was cooking downstairs.

I ran into the bathroom. Yes free! I thought. I jumped into the shower and let the feeling of Summer wash away sadly.

We lived in Ireland so it wasn't like we had much of a Summer well that is except of the three months we got off of school.

"ELLA!" I heard Andrew shout from outside the bathroom. "Hurry UP!"

I rolled my eyes, I got out of the shower and dried my long dark hair, with a towel and put it in a plait. I then started putting on some eyeliner and mascara making my eyes look darker than they actually were.

I changed into my school clothes and threw my pyjamas into the washing machine in the utility room upstairs.

I opened the door to see Andrew standing there in nothing but pyjama bottoms.

"It's all yours." I said smiling up at him. I used to be as tall as him but over the summer he had shot up to six foot three, while I stayed at my height of five foot six. I wasn't the smallest girl but I wasn't exactly the tallest either.

He ruffled my hair messing it up. I swatted his hand out of the way and skipped down the stairs.

I skipped into the kitchen to find Hayley was already up and in her school uniform.

It was her first day of secondary school. She looked very pretty with her long hair down all the way to her waist resting in pretty ringlets.

"Hi granddad." I said, kissing his cheek.

"Hi sweetheart." He said. "Well, don't you look nice."

I rolled my eyes, but secretly I was kinda pleased.

My parents died when I was five, Andrew was six and Hayley was only three. They died in a house fire. It was supposedly an accident, but granddad had never thought so. We didn't have any other relations except for him.

He took us in and cared for us. I was very grateful for that.

"Oh by the way," he started. "There will be a new student starting today. He'll be in your year Ella."
