Lost in my thoughts and mindlessly stuffing the fried eggs and bacon into my mouth, a series of knocks reverberated through the living room, followed by a few muttered greetings. Then the shuffling of feet.
Immediately, I sprang up and, cramming the rest of my breakfast into my mouth, I ran out of the kitchen, preparing to bring Jerome to the forest again.
I know its Jerome because he was the only one who always shuffles his feet around.
Jerome was the only person I trusted with the secret of the forest. And although I don't really trust him, I gave away my secret because he kept pestering me after I accidentally spilled the beans, crying in shock at the displayed fur coats in the shop windows. And of course, since he was my friend and I trust him.
"Hey Alexa! Can I see your pets?" Jerome asked merrily. That is typical of him. He always used the word "pets" instead of the cats' real names to keep the secret safe. And by using the word, pets, others would think that he meant the little bunny I kept in my room. Of course, that was a total lie. I would like to say I tossed the little bunny - oh cute little thing - to the cats but no. I wasn't that cruel.
"Why, you look pretty cheerful today, Jerome! Well hope you have a nice day visiting our house!" My mum statemented, a vague smile playing on her lips.
"Yes, of course I will, thank you ma'am," Jerome answered politely.
Sometimes I wonder how he could be so polite all the time.
"Yay! To the forest!" Jerome whooped right after I closed and locked the bedroom door.
"Shh! Dude somebody might hear you! And... seriously, why are you so hyper today?" I chided him.
And I opened the trapdoor, feeling excited.
It's time to visit the forest again.
