Chapter 2: Unnecessary Blood

Mudclaw could see Hawkfrost- only because he knew he was there. His eyes were in slits and his fur blended with the branches. Barkface stopped, and Onewhisker stared, mystified, at the cavern. "Is this it?" Mudclaw demanded. Onewhisker and Barkface nodded, and Crowfeather flexed his claws. "I wish I could've seen the Moonstone, though. It sounded amazing.." he murmured. Crowfeather, Barkface and Onewhisker stepped into the cave. "Mudclaw.. stay here.. and guard.." Onewhisker said, sounding unsure, probably because he didn't know if was right to tell Mudclaw what to do. Mudclaw nodded. "Yes, Onestar. "Onewhisker twitched his tail. "I will always be a warrior in the end, Mudclaw. I.. I'm not ready. I'm only following what Tallstar said.. I can't let him down." Mudclaw nodded- his goal was to pretend to be his friend to stab him in the back- but he felt a bit of sympathy toward the shaking cat. Crowfeather seemed excited to get in and speak to StarClan... Maybe he wished to speak to Featherpelt or whatever her name was.

"Wait," growled Crowfeather. "RiverClan. And WindClan." The cats hiding froze as Mudclaw turned to look, and Hawkfrost yowled, "ATTACK, MUDCLAN!" MudClan? Mudclaw thought, confused yet pleased. "MudClan.." Onewhisker said. "Mudclaw, is this your doing?" Hawkfrost and Mudclaw locked gazes. Hawkfrost hissed, "Mudclaw is a loyal cat! We have been plotting this behind his back for a moon! He should be leader!" Mudclaw stumbled back as if in surprise. "You've been plotting his death?" This was their back-up if Onewhisker suspected them, even if they hadn't planned it. Mudclaw turned around, facing Onewhisker. "Onewhisker, should we atta-" 

Hawkfrost had leapt and pinned Onewhisker. A patrol of WindClan cats rushed in, Tornear in the lead. "Tornear!" Mudclaw said. Tornear gave his littermate a cold stare. "Mudclaw HAS been planning this, on that island. It's all his idea!" He spat. A ThunderClan patrol with Firestar, Brambleclaw, Squirrelflight, Thornclaw, Cloudtail and Sandstorm rushed in behind the  WindClan patrol. Onewhisker had clearly had enough. "WindClan, attack!" He said, struggling under Hawkfrost's strong tabby claws. Firestar twitched his tail in signal to attack. He snarled and leapt, about to help Hawkfrost finish off Onewhisker, when Tornear blocked him. Mudclaw landed behind him and whipped around. "You.. traitor, Tornear!" Tornear snarled in reply, "I'm less of a traitor than you, Mudclaw! You know that!" Mudclaw hissed, clawing out blindly. Tornear circled Mudclaw, hissing in rage. "We've been trained in the same way, how'll you win this time? Do you have the guts to kill me, Tornear?" Mudclaw hissed. Tornear purred, a pleased purr. 

"I do, but I won't. I'll instead be so close to killing you that you wish for death to come."

Tornear is insane.. Mudclaw though as he clawed out at Tornear's ears(that sounds so wrong). A RiverClan cat was sneaking behind Tornear. Mudclaw twitched his ear at him, giving him the slightest of nods, and he returned it by leaping out and pinning him. 

"Nice plan, brother. I'll gladly use it on you." Mudclaw said as the RiverClan cat lashed out at Tornear's throat, leaving a struggling Tornear, who wouldn't die, but was in extreme pain.

The rebellion cats were fleeing, but not of fear. They needed a more open area, to both alert the cats that were waiting in in the trees near of the shore that led to the island, and to fight better. Brambleclaw stood near a tree and stared at Mudclaw, in an attempt to look threatening. Mudclaw hissed and dashed behind him to nip his tail. Hawkfrost had left Onewhisker with a fellow RiverClan cat and had pinned Mudclaw. "Brambleclaw is needed.. to kill him," he said, letting him go and facing Brambleclaw. "You will make a fine leader, but if I need to I will stop that." Hawkfrost warned. "I'm loyal to my Clan!" Brambleclaw retorted. To this Mudclaw pinned Brambleclaw. The rain was pressing against Mudclaw's pelt, so fast that it felt piercing. Thunder boomed ahead. Mudclaw looked above. A thunderbolt was coming towards the tree they well fighting below. It hit the tree and the tree fell. Mudclaw yowled as it fell down, and hopped out just in time. Brambleclaw got to his paws and was starting to run, but the tree was quicker. "Tell Firestar to retreat!" The wide-eyed deputy said to Brackenfur.

And those were his last words.
