"My cast itches," Joe groaned, gingerly scratching the top of it. "It's so uncomfortable."

"How long do you have to keep it on for?" Taylor asked softly, holding his hand.

Joe scrunched up his face, trying to remember. "Five to seven weeks, I think," he complained. "And it's already bothering me."

"Might as well look good with it if you're going to have it on for that long," Taylor murmured, hopping up from her chair. She grabbed her purse from the side table and pulled out a sharpie.

"Is that the same one you used to do your eyeliner this morning? I saw you," Joe said.

"Hush," Taylor said, blushing embarrassedly.

He chuckled as Taylor uncapped the sharpie and began doodling on his cast.

"What are you drawing?" he squinted, trying to make out the sketches.

"Stars, hearts, cats, flowers," she listed, drawing a cat that vaguely looked like Meredith. She drew an arrow and labelled it 'Mere'.

"That looks nice," he smiled at his wife in adoration. "Do the whole cast, Van Gough."

"Patience," Taylor wink, doodling an odd flower here and there.

"You're so gorgeous," he whispered, lifting his arm to caress her cheek.

"Stop moving your arm," she complained, pinning his hand back down.

"What the fuck is that?" Joe questioned, pointing at a weird scribble.

"Mind your fucking language," Taylor joked. "That, my love, is a star."

"No," Joe chuckled. "That is not a star."

"It is," she protested, "They're hard to draw, okay?"

Joe snatched the pen and drew a perfect star with his other hand, next to Taylor's peculiar looking star.

"Didn't seem that hard to me," he shrugged.

"Ugh," she groaned, drawing another cat. "Fine, no stars, okay?"

"No, keep going, they're kind of cute." he grinned at her. She smiled back, kissing his forehead softly.

When she was finally finished, his whole cast was decorated with sharpie doodles. He pulled his arm back, admiring it closely.

"I love it," he smiled. "I love you."

"Even when I draw weird stars?"

"Of course," he replied. "Now let me teach you how to draw a proper star."

The night was advancing, and the hospital decided that they would monitor Joe's condition overnight, but Taylor was free to stay. They wheeled in a pullout bed, and Taylor quickly dropped by their home to pick up her overnight bag.
