Shortly after Julia and Jack had made their relationship official, Julia decided to end her cooperation with Brand Today and bring her company Perfect Day back to life.
Jack obviously wasn't too happy about it...
"Come on, Deschanel, we are spending almost every moment together, at work, after work, at night!" Julia exclaimed, smiling, but Jack could see she was determined.
He knew that was Julia's way of grasping her new reality, of standing back on her own two feet, of being independent again.
It didn't mean though that he wasn't going to piss her off a bit on the topic.
"But I like spending every moment with you, Miss Stiles..."
The only thing he insisted on however was that they advertise Perfect Day among Brand Today's customers. Julia didn't agree to that easily, but Jack knew how to be determined and headstrong too. In the end she had no choice, but to yield.
Jack had also decided to follow Julia's suggestion and made Lizzie the head of the new Events department. He hadn't regretted the decision ever since.
While setting up the new department Lizzie and Josh realized they had more in common than just work. As a result a couple of months later Julia was asked to organize their wedding.Jack was walking through the garden. The sun was setting and the small lights hanging from each tree made the place turn into a fairy tale. He knew it had been Julia's intention all along. But where was the author of that beautiful scenery hiding now?
A moment later Jack spotted her sitting under a gazebo. Her eyes were closed. She looked so serene.
"Hiding from the crowd?" Jack asked with a chuckle, sitting down next to her.
"I just wanted a moment by myself in this beautiful garden," Julia answered. "I spent so much time organizing this wedding that I didn't even have a chance to stop and appreciate its beauty."
"I do appreciate the beauty..." Jack whispered, not looking at the garden though.
Julia hit him on the arm playfully, a shadow of a smile on her lips.
"You are a sight, you know that?" he added.
Julia's hair was let loose around her shoulders. In a light pink tulle dress she looked like a fairy from a magical garden.
"Right, I'm sure I look like a pink elephant..."
"Are you tired, love?" he asked, concerned and touched Julia's pregnant belly.
"That thing here is definitely not getting lighter, you know," she chuckled, caressing her bump.
When they had first learned Julia was pregnant, shock had been evident on both their faces. Jack had been the first to celebrate though; Julia had needed some more time to get used to the thought that she would be bringing new life to the world that hadn't always been nice to her. But the enthusiasm of the daddy-to-be and their families had made her look more positively at the pregnancy, and with time she'd started to feel the same enthusiasm and joy as the people around her.
Currently Julia was six months pregnant and insisted on working. That was yet another battle that Jack had lost.
"I'm young and strong and the baby is healthy! I will not be laying on the couch all day and getting fat!" she'd yelled at Jack when he'd mention the possibility of Julia stopping the work for some time.
Now in that fairytale garden his own fairy sent him a warning look. She was probably worried he would start the topic again.
"Come then, let's get you some cake, Mrs Deschanel, and maybe later I'll convince you to dance with me." Jack got up and offered Julia his arm. She took it willingly and stood up on her tiptoes, giving Jack a light kiss.
"I'm not Mrs Deschanel yet... Remember?"
"Yes, I remember... I just love the sound of it..."
Jack had to admit to himself though that seeing Lizzie and Josh getting married, he wanted to put a ring on Julia's finger himself. The thought of making her his wife, of making Julia his forever was one he couldn't get rid of.
"You know..." Julia's voice pulled Jack out of his reverie. "In that tuxedo, you are a sight yourself, Mister Deschanel..."
"Why, thank you, Mrs Deschanel..."
"How about that dance?" Julia offered, putting her arms around Jack's neck.
"Now?"
"Mhmmm..."
"I'm happy to oblige." Jack pulled Julia closer, her bump nesting against him. "God, I love the feeling of you and my daughter in my arms."
"We love to be in your arms, daddy." Julia whispered, resting her head on his shoulder.
They were rocking to the faint sounds of music coming from the dance floor. Jack wondered how he could freeze that moment forever. With this woman in his arms he felt strong and invincible, but most of all he felt loved. That was something he'd never expected to experience, hell, something he'd never cared to experience. Now he couldn't imagine life without Julia Stiles.
"Julia..."
"Yeah...?" she asked sleepily.
"Will you marry me?"
Julia kept quiet, as if enjoying the moment.
"I will marry you, Jack Deschanel."
