I looked at my notebook, which was filled with sketches and doodles of him. He had been my friend for about a year now, because I seem to be quite fantastic at hiding my feelings for him. Those wonderful piercing blue eyes, his golden blonde hair, that slight British accent... The sound of footsteps behind me snapped me back to the painful reality of the situation.
"Hey, Alex. What'cha doing?" The familiar voice asked. I quickly closed my notebook, holding it tightly against my body.
"Not much, just studying for finals next week. You?" I answered, keeping it cool. He pulled up a chair and sat down.
"Well I was going to ask you if you wanted to come to the movies tomorrow morning. We are going to watch the new horror movie that recently came out. We will meet up in front of the park near the school if you can," he said. Oh god that voice!
"Yes," was the automatic answer, and I may have have said that a bit too quickly. Horror movie? Oh god... "I don't have any plans, Lewis, so sure, I'll go," I said in a quiet voice, suddenly aware that the librarian was glaring at us with a finger pressed against her uneven lips. I honestly couldn't think properly. Keep it cool, Alex, keep it cool. He seemed quite satisfied with my answer, and patted me on the back.
"Don't overwork yourself, 'kay?" Lewis said. I replied with a simple nod, and realized I was grinning like a freaking idiot. We were going on a date! A real date! He smiled back at me, and left the library. I rested my back against the back of the wooden chair I was currently seated on, sighing in relief and slight frustration. My knuckles were white from clenching the doodle-covered notebook against my chest, and I set it back on the desk. I then glanced at the pile of books beside me, and let out another loud, frustrated sigh.
I spent the rest of my day doodle-ing in all my books, much to the dismay of all my teachers, and accidentally staring at Lewis. You can't blame me! He's in practically all my classes, and the guy's visually appealing!
So, I went home at four o'clock, riding in a crowded bus full of over-excited teenagers who are pretty much all at least two inches taller than me. God, I hate being short.
After a night of having absolutely no sleep (thank you, Tumblr), it was Saturday. Also known as the dreaded 'tomorrow'. I got up, had a breakfast consisting of toast and poorly-made eggs, and went back to my room to get dressed. Oh god, what the fuck will I wear? I looked through my closet, trying to find the best outfit to wear. Why am I worrying so much? We hang out all the time! I finally chose to wear some faded skinny jeans and my favorite green 3/4 sleeve sweater. I looked in the mirror and passed a hand through my curly black hair. I looked freaking hot!
I strolled oh-so casually to the park, which was a good ten minutes away from the place I call home. The park was practically crawling with kids running around, playing games or pick-nicking with their parents. I looked around, and my date for the day was nowhere to be found. Shit! I'm early! A loud shrieking sound came from behind me, and I practically felt my heart stop for a few seconds. I turned around, revealing Lewis with a large, mischievous grin adorning his face.
"I totally scared you there, bro!" He said, a chuckle escaping his lips. I felt my face heat up.
"You did not!" I replied, trying to regain my dignity after that scare. Lewis laughed again.
"Anyways, you came early, and the movie starts in about half an hour. We have some time to kill, so wanna check out the shops over there?" He pointed at a row of colourfully painted buildings, which all had an old-style feel to them.
"Sure," I answered, crossing my arms. We cut through the park, headed towards the shops. I could feel my heartbeat, which was unusually fast. The first shop we entered was a small shop, owned by a friendly woman in her fifties. We made small-talk, before moving on. The two of us visited a few shops selling different paintings and decorations, and even a delightful little cafe, where Lewis and I relaxed before setting off again towards the theatres.
Lewis and I entered the movie theatre, and I was in charge of sneaking in snacks while bought the tickets.
"What's the name of this movie anyways?" I asked my date, as we strolled to our theatre room.
"Murder mayhem two, revenge of the poltergeist," he answered, a large goofy grin covering his face. Fuck. I hate horror movies. We entered the room, and Lewis took the lead, sitting in the middle of the back row. I followed him, proceeding to sit beside him and give myself a mental pep-talk. Okay, Alex. Don't freak out. It's all good. It's alright. The commercials had already started when we had entered the theatre, so there was not a long wait until the actual movie started. I took some candy that I'd sneaked in out of my pockets and gave them to Lewis.
"You look scared already, and the movie hasn't even started yet, Alex!" Lewis exclaimed, with that absolutely adorable overjoyed look still plastered on his face.
"I am not scared," I said in the most calm voice possible, mostly trying to convince myself of that. The movie started, and I glanced towards Lewis, who's gaze was directed towards the large movie screen. Let's just say, this movie was composed of jumpscares, eerie sounds and gore, lots of gore. I think I nearly vomited. I buried my face in Lewis' arm, unable to watch any more of this horrible movie. I heard Lewis chuckle, and he ruffled my hair.
"C'mon Alex, it's not that scary, is it?" He whispered, amusement filling his voice.
"I-I am not watching any more o-of this movie!" I exclaimed, my shaky voice muffled by Lewis' arm. Another loud sound boomed from the theatre's many speakers, followed by an ear-splitting shriek. I nearly screamed myself, and I could feel my heart beating quickly within my chest. I looked up at him, and he was looking at me with a tender look in his blue eyes.
"You wanna leave then?" Lewis asked, his voice barely audible due to the loud sounds in the room. I nodded.
"Sorry," I said as he got up and dragged me out of the cinema. We walked around town a bit, before getting tired and deciding to sit on a bench overlooking the river that ran through the whole town before being dumped into the vast ocean. Lewis groaned.
"Ugh, my feet are killing me. I think I'm going to take a nap," he said, resting his head on my shoulder. "You don't mind, do you?" Is he doing this on purpose?!
"Yeah, it's fine," I blurted out, feeling my face heat up at the contact.
"Hey, Alex?"
"Yeah?"
"You look like a Spanish tomato right now," Lewis said, and I felt my face become even warmer.
"J-just go to sleep, you bastard!" I stuttered, probably sounding like a complete and utter idiot. He rested his head on my shoulder once more, and presumably fell asleep. He looked quite peaceful as he slept, almost child-like. I think I dozed off about ten minutes later, resting my head on his. I think we slept in this position for maybe an hour or so, before Lewis shook me awake.
"Alex, dude, we overslept. It's like, five o'clock now," he said, not really seeming to care. Half asleep, I looked at him. Then, I did the unthinkable. I kissed him.
I snapped to full consciousness, and stared at him. His face was red, and he looked quite flustered. I blushed once again.
"S-sorry... Oh g-god what did I-I do..." I managed to stutter out, my words barely comprehensive. Yep, I fucked up big time, and a nervous stutter wasn't helping the situation. He kinda grabbed the sides of my head and pressed his lips against mine one more time in another awkward kiss. Our faces separated, and on his face was a look of surprise and amazement.
"Whoa, I thought you were straight. If you aren't, you are quite good at hiding it," Lewis said, a small smile on his lips. The lips I just kissed. I grinned.
"Well, it's one of my many talents."
