I had always thought of us as the only thing smarter than dolphins. I never realised we lived in a world that we didn’t even rule. The only thing that I was aware of, is how much I wanted to search for something new. I often went in the shallow area, hidden by the tallest of weeds. The little ones played there, some of the elderly too. Daylight pooled into the soft-sanded area as one of the little ones spotted me.
“Hey! Mikey!” That was my sister, Aurora, she’s everywhere at once. I quickly darted behind a boulder. I rested my back onto the smaller roch behind, all covered in moss. As I pressed my hands onto it, turning around, I fell. It wasn’t a rock. It was … an entrance I think. I went into it looking around. This was like the other clearing, more hidden though, and much smaller. It had the same amount of daylight, making it super bright, but no one was here. This was also a bit deeper, the little ones wouldn’t dare come here, it was way too small for them. Only a small room of people could be inside. There was an opening to the air above, it was like a cave, the light was at the right spot since all of the area was filled with sunlight.
As I tried to find the entrance I saw brown hair swish into the area blocking the view of the person’s face. It was a girl, about my age. How strange it was to see people outside the water.
She looked at the wall with a magnifying glass, I backed away slowly, trying not to make the water make all the noises it did. She moved the silver object that it reflected the light right on my face. Now I sunk down, but still watched her under the surface of the water. She looked intently at the spot where I was a few second ago, took a chalk and wrote on the cavewall, “hi, if you’re someone, reply.” She left the chalk on top of a rock with a smooth flat rock, turning to leave. Her hair swished over the water bringing the smell all the way over to me. It was like cinnamon... But softer... The water didn't really let me smell properly, and as I pushed my head above the water, she was gone, and so was the smell.
Only a few seconds after she left did I notice that she went towards land, not into more water. I was yet again surprised. I swam over to the where the chalk was, looked at the writing and scribbled, "Hey, what are you called?"
