Ellie walked down the street,
As quiet as a mouse.
Her bully told her she was loud and in the way.
She told Ellie that she was stupid and should be thrown into a lake.
Ellie doesn't want to believe her,
But after being told that for so long,
She's starting to wonder if it's true.
I want to shake her and tell her she's lying to herself too.
The bully just so happens to be the girlfriend of Jack Fields,
The most popular boy in school.
Ellie shook away these thoughts
And walked into the coffee shop.
The waiter ordered her usual
As she sat down in the corner
Against a window.
Before she pulled out her books,
She spotted a boy.
He walked along the other side of the street.
He wiped his face regularly
And he looked around to see if anyone was watching him.
She felt sorry for him.
He, in fact, crossed the street
And caught a glimpse of her,
Revealing himself.
Jack Fields.
(Truth be told, he wanted to sit with her,
But his girlfriend would cut his head off if he did.)
He hung his head and kept walking
Past the coffee shop.
Ellie sighed and took a sip of her coffee.
Picking up her book,
She began to read.
Study.
Hide from everything but the words on the page.
Oh, dear Ellie,
Your life is about to be turned upside down.
She doesn't and couldn't possibly know that.
But, I do.
