Once our escort leads us in, she ours me in a room, and Luke in another. There's two white arm chairs, and a pale rug, ceiling, and pale walls. I sit quietly in one of the chairs, trying to get myself together. A couple minutes later, Sasha bursts through the doors and runs to hug my waist. "Please -sniff- try to -sniff- win for -sniff- me." She mumble. I could tell she had been crying. I run my fingers through her hair and promise that I'll try to keep safe.
Finally, a peacekeeper comes in and takes out a screaming Sasha. She's a hurricane. I whimper softly and brush my tears away. The door opens again, and the person I least expected to come, came in. Uncle Jack. I stood up and crossed my arms, "What do you want?" I snarled. He sighed and started messing with his hair.
I glared at him. He finally stood still, then dug in his pocket and took out a pin. He threw it to me, before I could even thank him, he walked out. I studied the pin. It had a fake gold tan, and a bow with an arrow going through it. I frowned, but put it on.
Finally, when no one else came, our escort came in and told me to get going. The train was here. I followed her out, she got Luke and we headed to the train. "Oh, this is fabulous!" She exclaimed when we finally got in.
"I'll go find your mentors." She chirped and scurried off. Luke and I walked around. It was nothing like back home in District 5. It only took a few minutes for Avila to come back with two other people. A man with grayish hair and oval glasses, and a woman with blonde hair and brown clever eyes that made you think twice. They came and sat down.
Luke and I went to sit in front of them. The man smiled, "I'm Darius." He held his hand for us to shake. We shook it as the woman said, "I'm Rory." She smiled at us. "So, what are your skills?" Darius asked. "I'm good with an axe." Luke said proudly. I couldn't help but scoff. The others stared, "I'm good at finding caves and stuff." I mumbled. Rory nodded, "You'll make a good team then." Luke and I both said st the same time, "Who said we're working together?" Rory kept smiling.
"Why don't we watch the reapings, hm?" Avila's voice made me jump. "Good idea." Darius took the remote and switched on the television. It was a perfect view, stuff like this came from three. It started with District 12, and went down. I didn't look for a ally, but could tell there were a lot who might have needed some. When District 5 came on, I saw myself for the first time. I looked... I don't know, I had a crazy look on my face. Then I saw the real me. The scared redheaded five girl.
My eyes said a lot about me. Then Avila called out Eric, who called out Luke. He must've known this was coming. His face was ready and... proud. "Luke was happy." I mumbled to Darius once he switched off the television. Rory nodded at me.
Avila ran in, interrupting whatever Luke was about to say. "Dinner! Now! Then we arrive!" She clapped her hands.
Rory motioned for us to get up. We headed to the diner cart, which seemed to good to be true. I got a plate and threw on: a chicken breast, some salad, and mashed potatoes. "You should get more, there's plenty for everyone." Darius pointed at me with his fork as he said that. Luke was eating with his hands, "I'm fine. Thanks." I tried to use my table manners, and ignore the pieces of food from Luke's mouth that was flying into mine.
"We are here!" Avila screamed. She made us get up and dust ourselves off. Luke had a piece of lettuce hanging tron his mouth, but that wasn't the worst. I brushed my hair back and went to the window for a look. "Wow." Luke muttered as the Capitol flashed by. "Wave! Two hands! Luke, not too much! Jade, smile!" Rory and Darius took turns ordering us so we could get enough sponsors.
Then the tunnel darkened, the Capitol was gone. "Nice job." Rory got up and put her hands on our shoulders. "Now, get ready to meet your prep team." It sounded bad.
