Scene:
Harry and Ron replaced the dead flowers with new ones, their faces solemn as they sat beside Hermione. Ron watched them sadly, his usually bright demeanor dimmed by the weight of the situation.
The others, gathered nearby, exchanged sorrowful glances, feeling the gravity of the moment. Mr. and Mrs. Granger stood apart from the group, their faces a mixture of anger and grief as they focused on Dumbledore.
Mrs. Granger yelled, "This is all your fault, Dumbledore! How could you let this happen to our daughter?"
"You promised she would be safe here! We trusted you!" Mr. Granger said, his usual soft demeaner breaking.
Dumbledore, usually calm and composed, looked down, his eyes filled with a rare expression of guilt
Harry: Wish you were here, Hermione. We need you now. More than ever.
Hermione watched the scene with tear-filled eyes. "Sorry, guys," she whispered sadly, trembling slightly.
Ron reached out, though his hand passed through her. "It's okay, Hermione. We know it wasn't your fault."
Harry noticed a piece of paper clenched tightly in Hermione's hand. His eyebrows furrowed as he gently took the crumpled piece of paper.
Ron with wide eyes: What's that?
Harry: Ron, this is why Hermione was in the library the say she was attacked. Come on!
Hermione smiled proudly, despite everything. "I knew you would find that!"
The others looked on, curiosity piqued. "What is that?" they asked, their voices echoing through the room.
As Harry and Ron left the Hospital Wing, Harry read the paper aloud.
Harry: 'Out of many fearsome beasts that roam our land, none is more deadly than the basilisk. Capable of living for hundreds of years. Instant death awaits any who meet this giant Serpent's eye. Spiders flee before it'. Ron, this is it. The monster in the Chamber of Secrets is a basilisk. That's why I can hear it speak. It's a snake.
The room fell into stunned silence, the weight of the revelation sinking in.
Professor McGonagall sat up a little straighter, her eyes shining with pride. "Brilliant, Mrs. Granger. Absolutely brilliant."
Mr. Granger was still fuming. "So, you're telling us that our daughter was almost killed by a giant snake? And you knew nothing about this until now?"
Dumbledore looked up, his expression grave. "It is a tragedy, and a failure on my part. But it was all for the greater good,"
Mrs. Granger shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "This place was supposed to be safe. You were supposed to protect them!"
Ron: But if it kills by looking people in the eye, why is it no one dead?
Remus nodded thoughtfully. "That's a great question, Ron. Why hasn't anyone died if the basilisk is so deadly?"
Harry: Because no one did look at in in the eye. Not directly at least. Colin saw it through his camera. Justin... Justin must have seen the basilisk through Nearly Headless Nick. Nick got the full blast of it, but he's a ghost. He couldn't die again. And Hermione had the mirror. I bet you anything she was using it to look around corners just in case it came along.
The room filled with murmurs of admiration.
James smiled, pride shining in his eyes. "You've inherited your mother's cleverness, Harry. Well done."
