I don't know what to do anymore. Its getting worse and I havent seen my dad in a week. My mom won't come out of her room in fear that I will get sick. She writes letters sometimes and sticks them under the door. I burst into tears every time I read one. I know she won't make it much longer but I don't know what I will do or where I will go when she dies. Its been going on for three weeks now and their is only a few people left in my small town. The water and electricity stopped last week so I don't know how it is everywhere else. I'm terrifies they thee isn't hardly anyone left.
All of a sudden my moms bedroom door swings open. I jump up and see my mom running towards me. "Come on! We have to go before they get here! Hurry!" She grabbed my arm and pulled me into my room. She looked horrible and she was coughing like crazy. The sight of her boney body brought tears to my eyes. She pulled open my closet door and began pulling the boxing out of the bottom. When she finally finished she ran her hands across the back wall and pulled a board from it. Behind it was a small door. She pulled a key out of her pocket and opened the door.
My jaw drops and I stare at it with ah. My mom took my face in her hands, "Lyric, I love you more than words can describe. You've always been my baby girl and you always will be. I thought we would have more time but the time has come for me to say goodbye. It wasn't supposed to happen like this. I promise you will be okay. Your my strong confident baby girl and you're gonna make it. The letters will explain everything. I love you." She kisses my forehead and pushes me through the small door. "Mom, mom no. Please don't leave me. No, NO! I love you so much mom. I love you." The tears were inevitable and they kept coming. I hugged my mom and let her close the door and lock it.
All the questions I have are swirling around in my head and I can't stop crying. I hear my mother put the board back over the door and move the boxes back in the closet. When she closes the closet door I hear nothing. I silently sobbed I to my hands for about half an hour before I heard something. There's a knock a the door before I hear it swing open. I hear loud footsteps and men yelling. My bedroom door opens and one man yells to the other. I hear my mother scramble to her feet and a second later a gunshot went off and something hit the floor. I covered my mouth to hide the screams. "CLEAR!" The men yell to each other. They walk out the door and everything is quiet.
