It is now 3 years later. The family misses their beloved Dick very much but they have slowly come to terms with losing him. Julian is now 19 and George has just turned 18! Anne is growing up too, she is now 15!
Julian moved out of the family home, trained as a mechanic, and now works in a garage, and is already married to a young woman called Chloe. He got over Becky long ago.
George and Jake are still together and Timmy is still alive, although he is getting very old now. George is at college also training to be a mechanic, Julian teased him calling him a copy cat but George said he simply wanted to be one too and that he and Ju should become partners with their own mechanic company once he has qualified. George also played football on a local team, all boys, and George was accepted as one of them and one of their best players. George also had a membership at the gym and was there most days working out!
Jake was doing well. He had a good job in his uncle's firm, suit and tie sort of thing. He was happy enough in an office
Fanny and Quentin are still together, they managed to put the stuff with Roland in the past
Anne has a boyfriend now too. He is called Billy but Fanny and Quentin are a bit strict and protective over her, not wanting their only daughter and also the youngest of all the children to grow up too fast.
George had an appointment with his doctor at the gender identity clinic.
''George I am pleased to tell you that since you are now 18 and have also been living very successfully as a male for a number of years it is now time for you to be approved for hormone replacement therapy'' he told him
George was overjoyed and it felt so good when that testosterone injection finally went into his arm!
Jake took George out for a meal to celebrate later that evening
''I am so pleased for you'' he told him ''I know how much it means to you. You have always been so determined to get what you want and never gave up. I am proud of you''
''Thank you my darling Jakey'' George replied, touched
Jake went down on one knee and got an engagement ring out of his pocket ''Will you marry me?'' he asked
George, overjoyed, said yes without even hesitating
''Of course, I'll marry you my darling Jakey'' he told him with joy
George attended a support group for transgender/transsexual people. This group was open to female-to-male and male-to-female transsexuals of all ages.
''I had my first testosterone injection the other day'' George told them all happily ''I've waited all this time for it, it felt incredible''
There was another female-to-male transsexual, about the same age as George and even more manly, sitting there nodding his head in understanding
''I had my first injections last month'' he said in a very male voice ''that feeling when the injection goes in is the best feeling in the world''
''Exactly, we've waited for it for so long and finally, it happens and it's just great''
''Well done George!''
''Oh that's not the end of my good news'' George beamed ''Jake and I got engaged too''
The others cheered and clapped at the great news
There was a male-to-female transsexual sitting there, this woman was older, she looked middle ages with short grey hair. While George and the other female-to-male transsexuals looked very much like men, this particular male-to-female transsexual didn't really look much like a woman at all. She looked like a man in drag
''It's easier for you guys'' she said bitterly ''You get your testosterone and you're a man and you look like it. But when it's the other way around it doesn't always work out as well. I've never really looked much like a woman''
The others did sympathize. Sometimes it worked out better than other times when it was male-to-female. For some, they never managed to pull it off that well
''We understand Julie'' they said
''I don't think you do'' Julie replied ''All my life I've had comments from people, been teased and bullied. But for you guys changing from girl to boy, it does seem much easier for you. People accept you easier, it's way more acceptable to have a tomboy girl than it is a girly boy and it's the same when you take it a step further and actually make a change. People accept someone who changed from female to male much more than they do the other way around''
''I know it's tough Julie, the world works in mysterious ways. I'm very sorry about it'' George said sadly
''Hey I'm not blaming you'' Julie said, with a smile at last ''I like you George and I'd like to take you for a drink later to celebrate your good news''
George accepted the offer, even though he didn't really know Julie that well
''I've admired you for a while now'' Julie said as they say in a bar later on ''The toughest one in the group I'd say, the most determined. Everything seems to have worked out perfectly for you. The complete opposite of how it went for me''
''Julie, it may seem that way but I had my own struggles plenty of times. It hasn't always been plain sailing''
''I'm sorry I don't wish to sound like a bitter person'' Julie said ''it's just I sometimes feel jealous of you ''lads'' in the group. You've had the easier time compared to us ''ladies''
''But you're a fighter Julie, you shouldn't feel so down, you've got through it all and you are a woman''
''Am I? I don't feel like people really see a woman when they look at me, they just see a man wearing a skirt''
''But that's their problem Ju, you should only worry about how you feel, and if you feel like a woman then who cares what anyone else thinks?''
''Thanks, George, you're very kind. I'd like us to be friends if you'd like that''
George smiled at Julie and felt sorry for her ''Yes that would be nice, I can't see a reason why we can't be friends'' he told her.
