I was out in the woods one morning, looking for food and other supplies I may happen to come across there. I tried not to venture too far out from my small home because, for one I liked it and didn't want anyone taking it from me, and secondly the farther out I venture the more dangerous it gets. Just the other day a fucking swarm of about a dozen walkers came after me while I was hunting. Luckily enough, I was skilled enough to kill them all with my machete.

The only weapons I had on me at the moment were a machete that a past friend had given to me, a bow-and-arrow and a pistol that was out of rounds. When I was hunting I usually only took the crossbow and machete with me, my pistol I kept buried near where I was staying. I had picked up on the strategy of burying things to keep them hidden from others, kind of like a post-apocalyptic version of a safe, when no safes are readily available.

The morning had been successful so far, I had killed about four squirrels and even a duck. I still had some other canned food I had found back home, I was even fortunate enough to find a pot. I lived near water so I'd usually boil the water over a fire so it would be safe to drink.

Early in the afternoon, as I was headed back home with my spoils doe the day, I heard a noise, like something cracking against a rock. Should I move towards the noise or walk away?

It might be another animal to kill, of course for me to eat later. No meat can go to waste.

I readied my bow, and slowly and carefully treaded towards the noise in question. I was quiet and steady with my steps, as to not scare away the creature. Hunting for my own food for however long it had been (I'd lost count of days at this point) I'd gained the necessary skills, as one may imagine.

As I neared my destination I found that it wasn't any kind of animal, but a person... they were short and had long hair so I assumed it was a girl. Her back was turned to me though, and she apparently hadn't heard me because she didn't budge. She was hunched over and appeared to be eating something.

I let my bow down, slung it over my shoulder and walked up to her slowly. I didn't know if she was armed or not but it seemed like she was alone, and given our size difference I could easily overpower her if she tried anything.

Supposedly she heard me coming towards her, she quickly turned her head, her long brown hair swished to the side as she looked back at me, with her back still turned. She appeared to be very dirty, and blood was covering her mouth, cheeks and hands. If my sight was failing me I would have thought she was a Walker but I could tell she wasn't.

Underneath the blood and dirt though, I noticed that she was actually quite pretty, even though I only got to see her from about 15 feet away. I came closer. "Stay back!" She whisper-screamed at me, loud enough for me to hear but quiet enough as to not attract walkers. She clearly seemed scared.

"Hey... I'm not gonna hurt you..." I slowly set down my bow, machette and even my game to establish some trust with her. This was the first human interaction I had gotten in a while, and I wasn't going to let an opportunity with a pretty girl like her go to waste. "Are you alone? I asked as I was about 6 feet away from her.

"Y-yeah... why?" She turned around and looked up at me and seemed to be holding a turtle, explaining the cracking noises from earlier and the blood on her face. Apparently she was eating the chelonian raw to avoid starvation.

"Just to be safe. I'm alone too." I crouched down near her.

"Why should I trust you?" She asked out of her own safety.

"Hey... I have a place you can stay. You look really rough and I suppose you need a good rest. I have a place to sleep... extra food and water. Plenty for both of us. I can even get you cleaned cleaned and into some fresh clothes."
