The moon shone brightly that night as the sound of footsteps and shifting wind floated within the air.

The only sounds that could be heard were breathing, the sounds of birds flying off, the distinct ruffling of squirrels looking for seeds and nuts and more, and, the quickened sound of thumps.

The human, of which was running, skirted to a halt and spun around, sword in hand.

"S-stay back!" He growled out, looking for his enemy.

A small floating creature resided behind him. "Call out his name!"

The blonde male looked at her. "I cannot, Paimon. I can do this alone!"

The floating being scoffed. "Fine, if you don't do it, I will."

The male was about to hit her over the head with the handle of the blade, when, a creature slithered out of the bushes.

It's body was limp, it's legs long and strange, large pieces of flesh missing and more odd 5ings that would have killed a normal creature.

The female creature behind the blonde quickly called out, but was stopped before she could finish "Adept-"

The creature staggered forwards.

Towards the male.

Help!

. . .

Thump

He stared at the body as it slid to a halt in front of him.

Did it just die?

He hoped so.

"Let's get going! Wangshu inn isn't far from here!" Paimon sheepishly replied, not looking at the limp, dead body and floating off toward a large tree in the distance.

The male nodded, running after her with quickened steps to the point where he was zooming through the trees.

"Thank god we made it, Aether! I thought we were gonna die!" The same soft voice called from ahead of the blonde.

"Yeah-" He paused, breathing sharply and looking behind himself.

"What was that thing?" He finished his sentence, looking around worriedly.

"I don't know- I've never seen it Aether!" She chirped in quickly, floating behind him.

"I think we should find Aurora. She asked me if I could meet her."

"Who's Aurora?" The floating creature asked.

"A.. friend, Paimon."

Paimon nodded in reply. "When were we meant to meet?"

"Just now, actually, I don't know where here though." Aether replied, looking around.

"Well, let's go up the elevator and ask Verr Goldet!"

Aether nodded and then walked towards the elevator, Paimon following close behind.

Walking up the steps, he spotted the wooden elevator dragging itself down and towards them.

By the time he had reached the elevator, it had stopped, and so he yanked the floating creature onto it and got on, just on time before it began to lift into the air, carrying them to their destination.

The wooden boards creaked as it reached halfway, and Aether then saw a small figure flicker past in the tree, catching his attention.

He looked over there, but saw nothing.

Guess it was just me...

Paimon nudges him as the elevator slows to a halt. "Come on, we've made it!"

He nods solemnly and follows her off the elevator and towards to entrance of the inn.

"Hello!" A female voice called to them, waving.

"Hi Goldet!" Paimon waved back, her small hand spread wide.

"What do you need?" Verr asked as they both approached.

Paimon nods towards Aether, then looks at Verr in her eyes. "Is there someone you know named Aurora?"

Goldet placed a finger to her chin before looking at her. "Yeah- she came in and asked if she was allowed to go to the balcony, and I said yeah, and asked her name, and she said it was Aurora and then she ran up to the balcony..."

Aether's eyes widened. "Was she human?"

Verr's eyes narrowed. "Yeah, obviously."

But she was a wolf... It'll be a good try anyways.

"Thanks, I'm gonna go to the balcony now." Aether replied, waving his hand in goodbye and jogging to the steps, Paimon following in turn.
