Phase 3: Wait

Repeatedly, you asked Ryodari to explain to you what this ‘big plan’ was, and why you were needed for it to happen. It surely wasn’t an “oh my gosh you're so talented we just need you on our side,” thing. Still, the male kept his secret.

At this present time, you were no longer in that empty metal room. You were outside. It was just the two of you, and it was as if he trusted you enough not to run off. Though surely if you tried, someone would eventually stop you.

The wind was blowing in your hair, his too. It was quiet. Serene. You breathed slow, deep breaths, while Ryodari looked out at the setting sun. You were too worked up over the situation to enjoy anything, curse your anxiety that never slept. Quite literally.

After moments of silence, being squished by the thickening tension, you opened your lips to hopefully alleviate it.

“I wasn’t the only one you took from Hagane, was I?”

Ryodari looked at you with bright, glimmering golden eyes. It was hard to read his emotions. He looked you in the eyes and shook his head. He was calm?

“How many others?”

It was like a switch soon flipped in Ryodari. He grinned widely, then laughed a little.

“Well, it wouldn’t be an interesting conversation if I just told you. Now would it?! Nah~”

At some point, you were expecting something of this nature to come up eventually. So instead of reacting, all you could do was sigh thoroughly and drop your shoulders as a sign that you were close to giving up on talking with him.

“Oh, c’mon Y/N! Don’t be like that,” Ryodari spoke in a whine.

You turned away from him and felt a tear well up in your eye. Why? You weren’t sad, or scared. You were angry. “Dammit,” you mumbled, reaching up to wipe the tear acting as if it were only an itch.

“Liontari. I promise, I will be the one to kill you,” you snapped with breathless anger, spinning on your heels to face him once more.

The male gave an unimpressed smile, shifting his weight to one side before laughing.

“Do you know how many people have said that to me, and soon ended up with my blade in their throat?”

At first, Ryodari kept his bubbly expression until he inched nearer and growled.

“Do you? Huh?! By saying that, I have to add you to that list! Is that how you wanted to go out? Dying by my hand?!”

With each word he kept getting nearer and nearer, you taking a step back every time, flinching as he spat words at you like shuriken. It was obvious he was trying to sound angry, and maybe he was. But there was a tinge of something else in his eyes.

“It’s not gonna end that way, don’t be so sure of yourself!” You barked in return, taking the chance to shove him away from you.

He stood still, his breathing a bit heavy from the yelling. His aureate eyes glaring into the deepest parts of you.

“We’ll see who’s right soon. Don’t worry,” he sighed, taking one last look at the otherwise peaceful atmosphere before grabbing your wrist and dragging you back inside. You opened your mouth to protest against this action, but fell quiet instead.

A poisonous flower of guilt bloomed inside your chest, and any sense of safety or comfort had wilted. You were following behind a quick Ryodari, watching as walls and strangers passed. You hoped that one of the soldiers was secretly rogue so that they could save you, but seeing as these ‘people’ moved around like a flock of emotionless sheep, that chance was very slim.
