Victor was roaming the factory, lost and afraid. He was sent to the Manor by letter, but now it's his happy death day. It was all a sick, sick game in the end and Leo was having more fun than the "players". Victor was out of breath, by the time he outran Leo and said Leo was running after another player. He sat on the ground, feeling helpless and just waiting for the sweet embrace of death. There was nothing more that he would want at that point. He knows Leo would get him later since he was his primary target, and so he curled up into a ball. His dog yipped, crawling into a small gap that separated his torso and legs, and took up the space. A stroke here and there, and Victor gave up. He sighed facing back and seeing everyone running around, getting chased. Until a particular gray-haired guy started running to where he was.
Aesop crashed to his knees, next to Victor, heavily breathing. He looked up to Victor, with his face turning into a little frown. Aesop already knew what he's trying to convey and sighed, then letting his body rest against the wall. They both mind their own business, not saying a single word to each other. Finally, Victor opened his mouth to speak.
"Have... you been chased?"
"I wouldn't be breathing too hard if not..." That enhanced the silence, besides the occasional screams from the other survivors. "I'm getting up. I'll see you around, Victor Granz, if you end up alive that is." Aesop ascended upwards, but Victor was pulling on his hand signaling for Aesop to sit back down. Victor let go of the sudden contact, clearly embarrassed and meanwhile Aesop was downright confused.
"Sorry, impulse." He looks away in shame, as Aesop stood. Instead of walking away, he then sits down again.
"If your... impulses want me to stay... then I'll stay." Aesop sat cross-legged, elbows on his knees going outward. Victor couldn't help but crack an unintentional smile, then looking away in realization. It's obvious Aesop wants to say something more, then after a bit of silence between them both, he spoke; "It's worth mentioning our rivalry, righ-"
"I would've escaped faster if you didn't try to embalm somebody who clearly didn't need saving." Victor pouted, putting his face in one hand.
"...It was, necessary."
"What was necessary, sir?! One of us actually needed that skill you have, and yet you chose a person who wasn't hit at all?" Victor burst, causing Aesop to jump and proceed to put his finger over Victor's mouth, making a hush motion. Luckily, the hunter wasn't near them. Victor's cheeks were a bit pink, but Aesop didn't take note of that and continued.
"It was necessary because they knew about your abilities. While none of us needed our daily mail sent in the Manor where we all perish, you told everyone what they needed to do and that gave them strength. Strength to run, strength to decode, and the strength to hope for a future." Watching Aesop spill out in front of Victor, was a sight to see. That made Victor mouth his words a bit then respond.
"But... everyone else had more unique qualities. Mine takes time, and sometimes it would be a little late. Why, me?"
"Because... well, it's a little more selfish," Aesop remarked, laughing a bit making Victor frown, "I embalm you, specifically, so I could at least see a face not covered in cold blood."
Victor had nothing to say, couldn't feel anything at that moment, except warmth. He felt... a feeling he couldn't describe. A feeling where he would have to process. A feeling where... he felt safer with a person he called an enemy. His body was inching closer to Aesop, bit by bit, as Aesop flushed in embarrassment. Wick's nose touched Aesop's thigh and barked quietly, startling the two. By then, Aesop noticed how much closer Victor was and started to cup his cheek, lifting Victor's head. He has never seen a face that made him warmly smile. A face that wasn't dead and not so moldable, made the experience more alive. Aesop moved his hand on his head and lifted it once to pat. Then twice, then a third time. He made a little cooing sound that only Aesop could hear, then got more comfortable with the touch. He didn't like being touched, but this was just... mellow. They both got more closer until they were in a little cuddling position. Victor rested his head on Aesop's shoulder, getting cozy as Aesop lightly strokes the other.
Then it happened, a light kiss on the forehead that made Victor jump. The first thing he noticed was Aesop's mask wasn't covering his face. He looked beautiful, but he quickly pulled it up. It took a few seconds before Victor placed his head on Aesop, then Aesop acting smooth he slowly pulled down the white mask and kissed the boy underneath again. It was the strength Victor had obtained to keep going, and the strength for Aesop to rekindle without fear.
