*Kelsey's pov*
".........new guy......moved here.........summer.." The whispers roll across the high school courtyard. I can't help but look look up to see the reason for the murmurs. Not that there's a range of possibilities. It has to be Josh. He walks like he doesn't hear them. He looks straight ahead, wearing a neutral expression bordering on blank. Black and white converse high tops, with the laces scraping across the gravel. His jeans black with rips at the knees and his hoodie almost as grey as the sky. His light brown hair messed and his eyes light blue. Eyes that are looking straight at me. I feel my breath caught in my lungs and I force myself to breathe when I see my best friend coming towards me where I am sitting against the fence at the back of the school.

"Hey" she says to me as she sits beside me against the fence.

"Hey Ellie, how was detention?" I ask curiously.

"Absolute bullshit. Miss Comone is a total bitch" she says as she puts out a pack of smokes and puts one in her mouth. She turns to me with the packet and I wave them off. "Not today" I say.

"Suit yourself." She lights up her cigarette and i immediately breathe in a huge cloud of smoke. This was the one of two reasons we sat at the back of the school. 1.So we, well Ellie, could smoke without getting caught and 2.because it was much quieter and calmer.
I lay my head back against the fence and let the smell of smoke engulf me and I stretch out my legs. "So what are you doing this weekend?" I ask my best friend.

"The boys and I were supposed to hang but Luke broke his foot and he was our ride, so nothing. Why? What are you doing?" She replies then taking a long drag.

"Nothing, you wanna hang out?" I ask and turn my head to her.

"Sounds like a plan" she says looking at me then straight ahead and I soon do the same.

"Kels, who's that guy looking at you?" She asks.

"What guy?" I ask the follow her eyes to gaze at what she sees. I see josh and once again my breath gets caught. I feel a lump growing in my throat and my heart beater 2x as fast. I swallow the lump in my throat and breathe, returning my heart beat to normal.

"That's Josh, the new kid." I say looking away from his intense stare.

"Ohhhh, so that's the kid everyone's been talking about." She says and looks at me. "Well he's staring at you, and pretty hard. Pretty sure I haven't seen him blink yet."

"No he's not. What are you talking about. He's probably staring at the fence, you know. Figuring out how to escape this hell hole." I try so hard to deny the obvious.
The school bell rings seconds later and Ellie is the fist one to stand, dropping her cigarette to the floor, squishing under her feet. I look at her and whine and she knows what he has to do. She takes a step so she's infront of me and pulls me up by my hands. I thank her and pick up my bag, walking with her to class. When we were half way accross the courtyard Ellie turns to me.

"Oi, Kels, do me a favour and spray me?" She asks as she hands me the Lynx bottle. "Sorry, I smell like smoke." She says and pops a mint into her mouth. I twist the can head and spray her head to toe. "Turn around" i instruct and she obliges. I the spray her again and spray a little sprits on her ass then hand it back to her.
"HEEEYYYY!" She screams.

"Hi" I says back and break out into hysterics.

"Not funny, now my butt cold." She says wiping at he butt. I laugh even harder then suddenly I feel myself falling over something. Just before I make impact with the ground, I feel two arms wrap around waist. Presuming it was Ellie, I begin to thank her. "Thanks ell- what would I do wit-......." I say and look up. My eyes widen and stand up straight. "Watch where your going darl" he says smiling while remaining to keep me steady. "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were my friend. Josh, right?" I ask.

"Yeah, Josh B Schofield, to be exact." He says then taking his arms away from me and crossing them, still smiling slightly.

"Right. Well thank you Josh. I'll be more careful next time. I'm Kelsey by the way." I say introducing myself.

"Noted." He says looking down. "Well, I'll see you around Kelsey. Bye."
"Bye." I say and turn to Ellie as he walks away. She's smirking and walks up and stands beside me. Still smirking, I eye her and roll my eyes when she wiggles her eyebrows. I walk away laughing and she follows close behind.

"Did someone get the grater out cause that shit right there was cheesy as fuck." She laughs, tilting her head back. "Shut up" I laugh as I walk into science. I take my seat across from Ellie's. Hers being the back corner table. As the class begins to fill up, I notice josh walk in and he straight away notices me. He walks toward Ellie and I and I rapidly begin to chant in my head. 'Don't sit in front of me. Don't sit in front of me. Don't sit in front of me.... Shit, he sat in front of me.' He takes his seat in front of me and looks back at me.

"We meet again darl." He smirks. I can't help but love the nickname but also hate it at the same time.
