Chapter Seven

Cammie POV

And the line went dead.

Everyone stared at me.

"What? That's one less Circle base we have to worry about. Besides, it slows them down." I shrugged.

There were murmurs of agreement all around.

I turned to Zach. "Can I eat now?"

He sighed, picking up the landline for room service. "What do you want?"

Before I could speak, Nick cut in. "Get her a salad, some green tea, and a warm glass of water."

"Hell no," I said immediately.

Nick nodded. "Hell yes. If you eat anything fatty or sugary it'll make your nausea worse."

A growl poured out of me. "I. Don't. Care." I whirled on Zach. "I want a big cinnamon roll with fries and a milkshake and a steak. I want rolls too."

"I can't order that." Zach shook his head at me, smirking.

In one swift move, I had my handcuffed wrists around Zach's neck, pulling tighter by the second.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa,"

"Okay, chill, chill,"

"Holy shit she's awesome,"

"Calm down, whoa,"

The voices in the room overlapped as I glared in Nick's direction.

Zach's eyes began to bulge out of his head as I indicated the phone falling out of his limp hand, speaking calmly. "Make the call, Nicholas."

Slowly, he reached forward and picked up the landline, making the call and ordering what I asked for.

When he put the phone down, I released Zach.

Zach fell to the floor, coughing and gasping.

"Alright, according to the mission file, there's a gala occurring at Landon Prince's mansion in five days' time, not including today," I said, opening my file as I set the trash can aside. "I'm assuming we all got invitations in our files thanks to our terrorist world status and, obviously, Macey's cover being the Subject's sister. I propose that we do surveillance for the next few days, learn as much about Mr. Prince as possible. That way, maybe we'll know our way around his house and where he keeps his classified information. We'll know his habits, the pattern of guard shifts, attendants of the gala, etcetera."

I stopped speaking when I noticed Zach's green eyes wide and crazed, staring at me.

I raised my eyebrows questioningly.

He slowly stood up, grasping the bedsheets with white knuckles. "You are completely psycho,"

"Have you met your brother, Goode?" I asked. "Besides, a girl's got to get what she wants somehow. No hard feelings." I patted his shoulder with a smile.

Zach growled, reminding me of a vampire with those canine teeth, sitting down next to me.

I smiled and winked flirtatiously, flipping my hair over my shoulder before looking at my case file.

"I love her. She's bloody amazing." Bex walked over to me in awe, grasping my shoulders. I had no choice to look up at her. "I don't even know your name, but you are literally the most amazing woman I have ever met."

I fought back the pain gathering in my core. It wasn't nausea or sickness. It was the longing I felt in my soul to have my best friend back. But I knew I never could.
