Laura
Who would have thought that a tenant could be both simple yet complicated? A tenant that plays so many different roles in my life. Well, this will have to start from a month ago.
BEEP BEEP BEEP. Ugh, school. I made my tie looser than it was supposed to be and left the first button undone. I was the kind of girl that had no friends in school and was basically in my own world with my Razer headphones half the time. I head downstairs to see my mum preparing breakfast for me and my older brother, Nic. Nic was basically someone that everybody loved in school. He has good grades, plays soccer and basketball so well, was cheerful and kind. He was a popular kid and always has a bunch of girls behind him. We are complete opposites but we still got along well. He is very protective of me and takes good care of me so I have no complaints either. Unlike most siblings, we have a pretty good relationship with each other.
"Good morning, Mum." I went over and pecked her cheeks. My brother too. It was a family rule set up by my dad from the very first day. Dad... He passed away a few years back from an airplane crash. Even though we do not mention him as much now, his presence is still there. Photos, belongings and his cologne scent. I missed him. A lot.
"For goodness sake, can you at least be a bit neater on the first day of a new semester? Just once will be good enough." Nic nagged while pouring chocolate milk into his cup.
"Help me pour one too. Thanks," straight out ignoring his previous comment. Nic does it for me anyway.
"Here you go. And... Why do you keep smiling at the phone? Who are you texting huh?" Nic made a good attempt to peek at my phone but I locked it before he could even see anything.
I've been talking to this Matthew guy that I met on Instagram a few months ago. He's a really nice dude. He understands me and we also live in the same city. This is what I call fate. He encourages me a lot since I have quite a low self-esteem. He made me feel safe, happy and my heart beats faster whenever I receive a text from him. He just makes me feel different.
This is where Nic shouts, "5 more minutes and if you're still not done, I'm leaving on my own." I add an exception to the part where I say I have no complaints about this brother.
I text Matthew to let him know that I'm leaving for school and may not reply to his messages fast enough if I'm in a lesson. He gave me a green light GIF, how cute and creative.
