Chapter Two:
Captain of the Investigation Company

Albedo's black boots clicked onto the grey and white granite floors. Moving up the wooden steps, he froze, seeing a red string wrap itself around his wrist into a neat little bow.

His soulmate has been decided.

He stared at the ribbon and smiled. To think that after all this time, even he was lucky enough to be recognized by Celestia. Albedo thought to himself that this must be fate. That's how he has always viewed this absurd phenomenon. This was meant to be. It's all according to plan. Now here he is, slightly giddy at the thought of meeting his soulmate. The red string existed and it is tied to his very wrist. He climbed up the steps a little faster, looking forward to seeing Sucrose to tell her the news.

"Sucrose-"

"Hello Master Albedo! I have many experiments I need to run down by to Timaeus. Care to join me?"

Albedo softly huffed. He thought through it again. Perhaps he'll tell Sucrose another time. Maybe when she isn't so jumpy or in a rush.

"But of course."

He sat on his desk in his office that was designated on the second floor of headquarters. Though, he was hardly ever in this room— so he would often let Sucrose use it to her disposal. He mostly resides in Dragonspine though that place just keeps getting more and more dangerous. His office door was slightly cracked open as Albedo heard two faint voices talking outside. While Sucrose was distracted with gathering all of her tools, he stuck his head out the door and saw how Hertha was standing by the doorway of your office. This could only mean that you were back from your mission.

"How interesting.."

"What is?"

"Captain (Name) is back from her expedition."

Sucrose momentarily froze. Then she gulped nervously, turning to face her Master, "You're not going to go and talk to her..right?"

There was a slight angered tone in Albedo's opinion, "Am I not allowed to talk to her Sucrose?"

She was quick to defend herself and her previous comment, "N-No that's not it! I-It's just that.. Well...you two tend to..argue whenever you two cross paths." Her voice slowly drifted into a whisper.

"I see..and does that bother you?"

"O-Of course not!" She waved her hands in the air, "But..maybe just for once, Mr. Albedo, you two should stop arguing..?" Sucrose wasn't fully confident in her explanation as to why she was so reluctant on letting him see you.

"I wouldn't call it arguing, Ms. Coincidence and I just tend to...debate, on a lot of things." Albedo snapped his finger, "Yeah, that seems like a wiser word to describe my interactions with her."

"I suppose that is a better way of putting it." She let out an airy laugh.

"Perhaps after helping you, I'll go visit the Logistics Company." Albedo suggests, "Should I?"

She nervously chuckled before ignoring his question, "O-Oh! Would you look at the time! I must meet Timaeus now!"

"Let me help you with all of that."

The geo user was nice enough to remove some of the equipment off of Sucrose's arms and followed her down and out of headquarters.

"Oh! I almost forgot, I need to grab some books from the library!"

Sucrose ran back into headquarters as Albedo found a nearby bench to put some stuff down and to wait for his assistant to gather what she needed. And while he sat there in silence, he stared at his wrist once more, interestingly gazing at the red ribbon. Thoughts of who his potential soulmate could be. Maybe they are also a part of the Knights of Favonius, or maybe they're from Springvale, or maybe they're from another nation.

"Sorry for the hold up! Shall we go now Mister Albedo?"

He only nodded, walking slightly ahead of Sucrose before making it to the alchemy bench. Timaeus greeted them before he and the anemo user began to discuss whatever they had been researching.

"Oh! Mr. Albedo.."

"Yes?"

"What did you want to tell me earlier? You came and visited me at headquarters...and you hardly ever go there— much less the second floor offices."

"I-"

"Oh?"

Sucrose and Timaeus froze, hearing the voice of the person standing behind Albedo. Everyone who was there to witness you two so much as look at each other felt on edge.

"Come on let's get going Captain (Name)-" Hertha grazed her hand onto her captain's.

"Well if it isn't Ms. Coincidence."

Albedo approached the girl, leaving behind an anxious Sucrose and Timaeus. They seemed to be feeling the same way as Hertha when you and Albedo advanced towards each other.

"Why hello to you too Mr. Fate."

"Mr. Albedo, please, let's just get back to the experiment-" Sucrose pleaded.

However, he stayed put. Standing there in shock. In a million years he would have never assumed that you, the Captain of the Logistics Company, would be his soulmate. Yet here he was, watching the string unbind itself around his wrist and tie itself with yours. He seemed too stunned to speak— both of you were.

"Hehe...well I guess this must be fate right?"

"In your dreams, this, is nothing more than a mere coincidence."

The three witnesses to your conversation were baffled at what was happening. There was an awkward silence that no one wanted to break. They waited for one of you to explain what was going on. Another argument might arise if neither you or Albedo explain.

"We're soulmates."

You two said at the same time.

Hertha's jaw dropped while Sucrose covered her mouth after letting out a small gasp. What could this possibly mean? You and Albedo did not exactly see eye to eye with certain things. Hell, you two were in fact the exact opposites.

It didn't sit right with anyone— well, anyone except Albedo, for you two to suddenly become soulmates. It seemed so wrong yet so right that he believed the stars have finally broke, aligning his destiny with yours. This all must be fate. However, Albedo knew you thought otherwise.
