Chapter five

. STORIES

BELLA HAD TO be the most forgetful person Sage had ever possibly met.

She was supposed to have collected a package Renee had sent her, from Seattle two days ago, and now Sage was driving to pick it up instead.

He was kind enough to do her the favour, but honestly he wished he had told her no. He was sure that Edward could have gotten it himself much quicker, saving him the trouble of waking up early.

He was a morning person, but he had worked till midnight the night before and really wanted to catch up on the much needed sleep he had missed. Charlie had been slightly anxious about letting him drive whilst he was tired.

The cheif had warned him to be careful, speaking of the many car crashes happening due to rowdy teenagers. Sage wasn't worried, he planned to stay in his car most of the journey and he was a safe driver.

He would just have to collect the package quickly and get his ass back hoke for a nap.

He had no idea what was in the package that Renee had sent to Bella, although he assumed it had something to do with Bellas up coming birthday. He would give it to Charlie to hide from the surprise hating girl once he returned from work.

Whatever the parcel was, it was not worth it.

Sage stepped out of  his black car, finally having found a parking space down the street, groaning in annoyance at the distance he now had to walk. Something he did not miss about big city's was the limited car spaces available — there was just too many people crowding the streets.

He hastily walked past brightly lit store fronts - already decking out for Christmas - and dark and gloomy alleyways, ignoring everyone he passed in hopes to get home quickly. He had to get back to Forks in time for work; he was staying back to help and didn't want to be late.

As Sage grew closer to the post office, he ambled closer to a large and loud crowd of people — and a cluster of officers, ambulances and news reporters. After a moments hesitation he cautiously walked over, peering above the crowd to the area being blocked off by yellow police tape.

He couldn't see anything through the crowd, but the yellow tape and talking officers. He wondered vaguely what happened, and luckily was close enough to pick up some mumbled conversation from a pair of elderly men beside him.

" heard it was an animal attack" one whispered. " no way! An animal couldn't do that in a place like Seattle." The other denied.

Sage decided he would find out  what happened for himself. So he ducked through people, until he was able to see passed the bobbing heads and body's blocking the way.

Instantly wishing he hadn't.

It wasn't gory or gruesome, but it confused him immensely. He managed to catch a glimpse of the body before the blue sheet was covering it, taking in the icy white skin and the blue tint to their thin lips and spindling brown hair.

It was a woman, barely older than Sage himself. There was only a messy bite on her neck from what he could see, but what animal would - or could - kill someone with a single bite?
