Kuroko walked up to your apartment door with his hands in his pockets. He knocked politely, but reached under the mat and pulled out the spare key when you didn't answer. He let himself in and closed the door. The kitchen and living room were empty save for stacks of moving boxes here and there.
You were Kuroko's best friend, and you had gone to America to visit your family for summer quarter. When it was time to come back, your parents had surprised you with their decision to stay in America. You didn't want to stay, so your parents let you move back by yourself. Now the winter quarter was about to start, and your apartment was still in a moving disarray. Kuroko had offered to help you finish unpacking before school started Monday, so here he was.
Kuroko looked around the bare living space. A half assembled couch sat in a corner, a lamp balanced precariously atop a stack of books, and several articles of clothing lay scattered and under random chairs. Kuroko sighed. You wasn't exactly known for your organization skills.
"(Name)-chan?" Kuroko called into the seemingly empty apartment. There was no response, so he wandered down the hallway toward the bedroom. He heard a soft humming coming from behind the closed door. Smiling, he reached for the handle.
"Tetsuya!" You screeched when you saw his reflection in your mirror. Your hair was a freshly showered mess, and you stood in front of your full length mirror in only jeans and a bra. Kuroko had frozen in the doorway with a small blush creeping across his cheeks.
"Close your eyes!" You screamed, mortified. Kuroko slammed the door shut in his haste to exit your room, causing a picture frame to fall in the hallway. You heard him scrambling around outside your door, rehanging the picture, and laughed to yourself. Then you remembered that Kuroko had just seen you in your bra and quickly pulled a shirt over your head.
Kuroko rehung the frame with slightly shaking fingers. He clenched his fists at his sides, willing himself to stop blushing. It's only (Name), he told himself. Why am I so embarrassed?
The answer was obvious, of course. When you'd told him you were going to America for summer quarter, he knew he would miss you. But when you told him there was a chance you'd have to stay in America, he'd felt like a black hole had opened up inside his soul. As he helped you find a way to reason with your parents, he'd realized he was blindly in love with you.
Little did he know, you returned those feelings wholeheartedly. You'd felt the same void open within you as you argued with your parents about their decision. Being apart from Kuroko for one quarter had been hard enough, but living away from each other for who knows how long? Out of the question.
You pulled a sweatshirt over your head and opened your bedroom door. Kuroko wasn't in the hallway, so you creeped out into the living room. He was sitting cross-legged on the floor, focusing entirely on the pieces of your couch. You knew you should be the mature person in this awkward situation, but just looking at him made you blush. How much had he seen?
You cleared your throat. Kuroko's head turned to look at you. He stood and shuffled over. You leaned against the wall, praying for moral support from the inanimate structure.
"Sorry for walking into your room, (Name)-chan," Kuroko said awkwardly. For once his eyes didn't meet your (eye color) ones. They looked anywhere but your face, flitting around in all directions.
"It's okay, T-Tesuya-chan," you mumbled, looking at your feet.
"I promise I didn't see anything-"
"It's okay!" You practically yelled, embarrassed. Kuroko's eyebrows raised slightly. You realized you were blushing profusely and covered your face with your hands.
"(Name)-chan," you heard Kuroko say. You peeked at his face through your fingers.
"There's something I want to tell you," he said hesitantly. You lowered your hands slightly, pinning him with a questioning gaze. Kuroko's eyes looked around the apartment before locking onto yours. You felt your heart beat faster in your chest and your breath hitched.
"Close your eyes, (Name)-chan," Kuroko said. He lowered your hands and stepped closer to you. You obediently closed your eyes as his soft lips brushed against yours gently. The kiss lasted about two seconds, but it made your knees go weak and your heart felt like flying. You opened your eyes and saw Kuroko staring at you. His eyebrows were drawn together slightly in worry, like he was afraid he'd been too forward. You giggled softly and wrapped your arms around his neck. He instinctively brought his arms around you. Kuroko was never good with expressing his feelings, so you decided to steer him in the right direction.
"I love you too, Tetsuya," you whispered. Kuroko's arms tightened around your waist.
"Thank you, (Name)."
