GRETA
I took the white dress out of my backpack I just hoped it wasn't too wrinkled, the plan was risky perhaps even more crazy and suicidal than when we first escaped, if our mothers discovered us not even the power of all the capos combined could stop their fury and yet even with that possibility present here I was getting ready in the bathroom of a chapel just outside of Las Vegas. Willing to walk alone to the altar and give the long-dreamed Yes to that man who had already become my whole world.
A knock on the bathroom door snapped me out of my thoughts followed by a voice announcing my turn in fifteen minutes.
AMO
Fifteen minutes twenty at the most if you counted the photos and hugs of those present was what it took to get married in this chapel and what separated me from seeing Greta walk towards me, the couple who were at the altar looked more drunk than in love but who was I to judge their motives, the ritual was rather comical than emotional with a bride who couldn't stop laughing and crying nervously at the same time and a man who couldn't articulate a word.
I declare you husband and wife (announced the minister dressed as Elvis) you can k ... (he did not finish the sentence since the couple merged in what seemed more like a mating session than a kiss) next (said a female voice which belonged to the organizer for calling her in some sort of way since she was in charge of taking out and accommodating the couples) number fifty-five ( finally I said looking at the paper in my hand) here (I said getting up from my seat and walking to the front of the room)
GRETA
I waited nervously in front of the door of the room, holding tightly the bouquet of white tulips sent by Amo and delivered by one of the workers of the place. My hands began to sweat my feet danced from one to the other trying to control the growing anxiety inside me.
-Fifty-five is your turn,- said the same worker who just fifteen minutes ago had knocked on the bathroom door, pushing me by the shoulder. Without further ado; the door opened revealing the small place that for some reason I imagined immense, it turned out to be quite the opposite. The path covered by a red carpet was narrow and short, surrounded by mostly empty benches, the occasional exception being showing peculiar-looking people. And at the bottom end of everything, I look at his figure dressed in a navy blue suit and white shirt that even without a tie and with the first two buttons unbuttoned gave his so characteristic security. I could not prevent my lips from curving into a smile, indescribable happiness flooded my being and with that deep feeling I began my march towards him.
AMO
Bella, I never thought I would see an angel, much less on earth, but it was here in front of my eyes. Dressed in a short white flared dress, her black hair down and crimson red lips she was so damn beautiful it seemed unreal. I took her hand just when I had it within my reach I needed to verify that it was not a dream, the softness of her skin, the warmth of her body calmed my fears. I looked directly into her eyes getting intoxicated with that pair that captivated me more intensely over and over again as time went by. -I LOVE YOU- my lips whispered uncontrollably it was the truth and instead of feeling vulnerable or ashamed I felt stronger and braver than ever to be able to express such a wonderful feeling. And so with emotions running high, the ceremony began.
GRETA
By the power granted to me by the state of Nevada, I declare you husband and wife; you can now kiss the bride. Our lips met in a tender, soft kiss. It was official, we were finally married and I could feel an enormous joy through my being, without a doubt this would be one of the best moments of my life.
AMO
Gazing at the countless lights of the streets in Las Vegas. Greta found herself sitting next to me on the hood of my car, our hands clasped, still couldn't believe we had secretly married . - Maybe this will be the mafia's best kept secret,- (I muttered) before taking a direct sip from the spout of a champagne bottle. – want some? - extending the bottle to my wife. Greta took the bottle with her little hands and then gave it a really small sip compared to mine.
-You know something Amo- said Greta, getting off the chest and turning her back to me - I want to promise you something here with the lights of Vegas as my witness, I will love you with all my heart, I will love you beyond my breath, I will even love you when the lights of our lives go out when death claims us by its side that path of darkness I want to walk by your side because I know that even in the darkest places you will protect me and make me shine, I will love you with everything and even more of my being because Amo you are my beginning and end. - I did not know at what moment I stood but by the time she had finished her words I was hugging her from behind, my eyes moistened because of her feelings. I kissed the top of her head - Time to go - rubbing her arms- We don't want to raise suspicions - I said leading her back to the car.
GRETA
-Do you think they'll forgive us? -I asked him as I looked at the lights through the car window
-They will never know- taking my hand- it will be our little secret Mrs. Vitiello- taking it to his lips to place a kiss on them.
The end.
