I looked over at Christine. Her eyes were closed. I looked back at the door. Wait… I could see?
It was no longer stiflingly dark in the closet, and I knew it wasn’t just my eyes adjusting. There was light creeping in from the crack at the bottom of the door.
Light? Morning light? As in sunrise? “Christine…” I whispered. “Look.” I pointed down with my eyes and she saw it, too. The glistening happiness that appeared in her eyes warmed my heart. A smile broadened on my face. We had made it!
“You think they went back to the stage?” She asked quietly, excitement filling the void the terror had left behind. She stood up.
“Only one way to find out…” I opened the door. There wasn’t anyone in the hallway. “It’s all clear.” Man, it felt so good to say that!
“There they are,” Christine gestured to the stage, where Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica were positioned. It seemed just like any normal day at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
“Why don’t you go and call your parents now?” I asked with a smile.
“I think they can wait a few minutes more,” she answered. “Why don’t you go and call the police chief?”
“I’m afraid I don’t have enough evidence still,” I said, reaching behind me to rub the back of my neck. Maybe they didn’t have young detectives for a reason. I felt like I had wasted my time. I spent a total of 30 hours officially on the job as night guard and hadn’t been able to do much digging.
“Are you sure about that?” Christine raised an eyebrow and handed me a manila folder. It was labeled “Fazbear Entertainment.”
“Where did you find that?” I took it from her and opened it.
“On the floor in the storage closet. Behind the lowest shelf against the wall. My foot brushed up against it in the dark and I noticed it when the sunlight streamed in.”
There were several newspaper clippings, as well as a couple of photographs. I saw a man with a golden badge that read “night guard: Jeremy Fitzgerald.” It was the man I saw so many years ago at the birthday party! Before Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza changed his life forever.
I also saw a man in a purple coat, posing next to a strange yellow version of Freddy. With the way the shadows fell in the picture, I couldn’t really make out his facial features. That picture thoroughly creeped me out; I thought the yellow Freddy was just in my mind, but as creepy as the yellow Freddy was, the man was a hell of a lot scarier. What did he have to do with all of this?
The desk back in the security office did have some employee information in them, but had no files on any managers or business owners. This folder was full of them! Names and addresses! There was more than one documents displaying the location change of the pizzeria. This was the kind of stuff that I had been looking for!
Christine pulled on my upper arm towards the security office. “Make the call, detective. I would love to see this place go up in flames.”
I eagerly followed her. “I just might be able to make that happen.”
