You never know what you are gonna find or what memories will surface when you go through your attic. Jayla experienced this first hand when she decided to spend a day cleaning out her attic on a slow Wednesday. When you are retired you have nothing better to do, and she had decided that it was about time she got organized. Her attic was full of stuff from her life. Most of the stuff she found she had no idea why she kept, but then she found a box full of pictures from high school and all the good memories came flooding back. Her first love with the perfect boy and all the great times they spent together when they didn't have a care in the world and everything was perfect.
Jayla held the pictures close to her chest soaking in the happiness that came with them. She looked at them again and again. Then she jumped up suddenly, well as suddenly as an 84 year old can. She ran downstairs and picked up the phone and dialled his phone number, Carter's phone number, that would never be unmemorized. "Sorry it seems you have dialled the wrong number, please check the number and try again". Of course, why would that still be his number, it was almost 65 years ago. Yet the memories seemed like just yesterday.
So Jayla went to the computer and Googled him. Turns out the internet isn't a waste of money after all, and she decided that she would stop complaining to her grandchildren about it. The first link that came up was a funeral announcement. She stared at if for a few seconds. Surly that was not him, there are probably tons of people with the same name. 1 minute went by and then 2. Finally she clicked on it and there he was. It didn't matter how old he got she would never forget those eyes. Then all the regrets that came with the happiness crashed down on her and she started to cry. Rose her granddaughter came over and put her hands on her grandmothers shoulders.
"Whats wrong? Did one of your friends pass away?"
"Uhuhh a friend from a very long time ago, i haven't talked to him in since before collage." Jayla replied
"What happened?" Rose asked
"Now that would be a really long story"
Rose paused for a while thinking of what to say next then spoke up. "Well i am here all day so why don't you tell me, it will probably be good for you". Her grandmother just sat there for a while and then slowly nodded but said nothing. So Rose guided her to the living room and sat Jayla down in her chair and sat across from her on the couch. She waited and Jayla started to tell her the story that went along with the pictures and the obituary on the computer.
