"Carmen!" The words drifting about my head scattered and the slumber I had fallen into shaken by a sudden screech.

In an instant I was sitting up right in my bed, small fingers clutching to the bed sheets in alarm as my frantic, brown gaze searched the room. A heavy scent drifted under my nose, inhaling it into my lungs as it burned my throat and made the pressure of a headache form.

I jumped as a loud bang slammed against the other side of my bedroom door, reality coming alive around me as the wooden price burst open and slammed against the wall with an ear ringing bang.

A tall fugue looked above as a sharp crackling sound attacked my ears in a rush, a sudden just of heat hitting my face as a day there stiffly, mouth opp pen to speak but only air came out.

The figure lunged at me, there bright, flickering light behind him almost blinding as it raced up the hallway walls. A pair is arms surrounded me in a sudden embrace and the comfort of my bed was gone. Everything seemed to go by in a blur as flashes of orange filled the edges of my vision before the murmur of faint shouts filled my ears.

Blinking, my state of mind was slowly returning as I was hit by the shining rays of sunlight, my eyes adjusting as I peered over the broad shoulder of the person to see the towering building screaming with the pops and crackles of flames, the structure losing the battle as the bright orange engulfed it piece by piece.

The light if the flames reflected off my eyes and danced across them, everything slowly sinking in as realization finally got me, only to be shattered by a sudden fleeting thought.

One...

I shook the obscure thought away as a pair of hands suddenly cupped my face.

"Carmen! Carmen can you hear me?" A voice shouted and I slowly breathed in, smokey air filling my lungs.

"Yes...," I answered in a hushed whisper, my horror filled gaze fixated on the house.

My eyes scanned the people around me, yelling and running about, but I didn't see the familiar face searched for.

"Dad...?" I whispered as my eyes focused upone house again.

A loud crack filled the air and flames were tossed into the site as the building suddenly collapsed with a ruckus of noise, prices of ash and debri thrown into the air as the people surrounding me suddenly pulled away.

I could only wonder one thing. Why did this happen... To me?
