I awake, panting and sweating. What was that noise? My breathing begins to steady as I try to rationalize it. It was probably just a tree moving across the window. Yes, that makes senses, best go back to sleep. I lay my head back down on the pillow and try to fall asleep again.
Just as I'm, about to drift off into blissful sleep, I hear an unholy growl, followed by heavy footsteps, and a door opening. I sit up, eyes searching the room as sweat drips down my neck. My brain can not make sense of this. I am alone, the nearest person is twenty miles away. It could be an animal that nibbled it's way into the house. No, animals don't create footsteps. Animals don't open doors. Except the human kind.
I could feel my blood pressure rising by the second. My heart was beating so loudly I thought it would deafen me. I figured I'd better go and whatever could be out there. I got out of bed and waited a few minutes. Silence. Even the loud beating of my heart could no longer be heard.
Could it have all just been a figment of my imagination? Maybe. I let out a huff of breath at how ridiculous I had been acting. I chuckled at my foolishness and got back into bed. No sooner than I had thrown the covers over my head, I hear a woman scream as if in pain.
Trying my best not to make a sound, I sit up in my bed. That most definitely wasn't my imagination. No one even comes around these parts. Whatever it is, I'll make sure it never comes on my property again.
I get up from my bed, put on some slippers, and grab my colt .45 from my nightstand drawer. I slowly open my bedroom door as quietly as i can and look out, gun in hand. Nothing. I can see nothing but pitch black darkness. I step out into the hallway, and look to my right. I see the familiar sight of a small table with a lamp on it and a mirror above it. I turn on the lmp and start walking to my left, down the hallway. On my right is the bathroom, so I walk in, turn on the light, and look around. Nothing. I sigh, thinking that the scream sounded close so it could have come from the living room. I turn off the light, close the door, and start walking to the living room.
As I am turning into the living room, I hear a chuckle behind me. In this moment I stop breathing and my heart beats a million miles per second. As slowly as possible I turn around, terrified of what monstrosity could be behind me.
When I turn around and see nothing but the end of the hallway and the light coming from the lamp, I am petrified, surprised, confused and relieved all at once. I let out the breath I had been holding and turn around into the living room.
What I see when I turn around can only be described as humanly demonic. It had the body of a man, but the skin surrounding his eyes and nose was gone. His eyes were completely black and his mouth (the only part with skin) was glued into a huge creepy smile.
My heart was beating so fast and so loudly I'm surprised that I didn't have a heart attack right there. Suddenly I got this huge headache and I heard a woman screaming " Help me! I got lost." There wasn't a woman in sight, only the beast in front of me. I grabbed my arm and the woman in my head said " Sir, please I got lost." I had no idea what this voice wanted nor did I care I had to kill this thing before it killed me.
Suddenly, I remember that I have a gun in my hand and I point it at the beast. The woman screams " No! Please don't ki-" Before the voice can finish I shoot the monstrosity right in the head, and the woman stops speaking. When I look at the thing on the floor I see that it's gone and a woman lies dead in it's place.
Realizing what I have done I decide that I don't deserve to live. I put the gun in my mouth and pull the trigger.
When the mans body falls to the ground, the demon that he saw appears. He smirks and say "Stupid humans." With that the demon leaves, triumphant. He goes onto do this to many humans, who end up killing themselves all because their minds are so easily warped. The demon knows the secret to humanity; If you persuade one they will end up eating each other alive until they are extinct.
The End.
